I rolled my '01 Ranger Edge but the frame is still good. I want to just replace the cab for now to make it drivable again. I was wondering if I have to have the cab from another Edge or can it be just a regular Ranger cab. I was also wondering if a cab from a different year model would work.

99 to 04 should work. Has to be the same type of cab, but doesn't have to be an Edge.

98-03 you mean? 04 have a ton of wiring changes in the cab and a digital Odo. Dunno what that may impact as far as speedo/tach/odo signals.

what about the vin tag on the cab?

Most States have Provisions for that where they can have someone from the SOS office come out and inspect the truck and give it a new VIN, or they can legally transfer the VIN...

Or you can just pop it off the old truck and onto the new one and say **** it.

If I am not mistaken it will have to have Rebuilt Title. I know in some states that is the way it is with the DMV. Was a trooper or a cop called after the crash? There will be a record of that with the VIN # listed. If you have the original title of your truck you will need to take that to the DMV and have it transfered over to the newer cabs Vin # that you mount to the frame.

I am looking at bare cab. Not worried about wires, dash, interior, etc.

The generations go 83 to 88, 89 to 92, 93 to 98, and 99 up.

its 93 to 97, then 98 up. :icon_thumby:

No cops were called.. it was on a logging trail... So theoreticly, if i take the VIN Tag off the old cab and put it on the new one it will be like nothing happened?

I'm thinking that's illegal, but yes.

thats what id do, its not like were talking about a highly sought after musclecar or luxury car. theres a few other places the vin exists besides the visable location through the windshield. you may need to have the windshield out to change the tag. i once had the whole dash of a fairmont out and could have changed the tag if i had wanted / needed to. if the drivers door is still useable from your original truck, it will have a sticker with the vin on it (unless the sticker is in the doorjamb frame of the cab like ive seen on a few fullsize)

You have to seperate the 93-94 from the 95-97 because the firewall and dash are the same as the 98-03's

BTW, I have a quad door 98-99 Supercab here.

Loose cab with doors and some other odds and ends still attached.

I've has a State police Captain standing in my driveway telling me that "nobody gives a damn on a 15+ year old truck"

If you are caught driving it on public road and the cop or trooper wants to check out the Vin # you will be screwed. Your vehicle could be impounded. If you are gonna trailer or tow it for off road fun......should be no problem.
