Hey guys , I would like ur opinion on Some things. I have a 96 ranger as you know from my build thread, and I need ur opinion on a few things because I'm not to sure which direction I wanna go.

So long story short, I have the screwed up back, and I went away for about a month, I got rid of my truck my 04 ram, now I don't have a car, I wanna get my ranger together so I can start driving it.

I have a c4 trans and an aod trans, both need to be rebuild and I get trans rebuilds done at cost, which should I go with?

What headers can I use, I WANNA use long tubes if possible, but what are my options,

Can I use fox body 351w drop motor mounts?

What is the cheapest and easiest way to lower my ranger?

One last thing, where the he'll can I find a 4" cowl hood at? I am pretty sure someone makes them, but I can't find it online.

Hello, I have an AOD that was bolted onto the 302 I bought, and got the trans for basically nothing. You'll need to figure in what kind of driving you'll be doing. An AOD wouldn't be very useful on "cruise-night", or city driving, stop light to stop light, etc. However, on highways and long trips it would be worth having the overdrive. Especially nowadays with gas being more expensive, the AOD would be a benefit... also with it sitting behind a V8. If your going to a V8, I'm guessing you'll want to get your foot to the floor a few times. An AOD will make good use of horsepower, not sure abut the torque subject, though. Go to the TCI Transmissions website and ask them what they think. Also, be aware that an AOD might take some trans tunnel mods on your floor pan. The C4 is easier with bending back the pan seam with a hammer.
Now, for the other questions. Check these sites...

The US Body site, just find your truck at the far left list, and click. Long tube headers? Don't think they'll work, unless custom made. Always seen the shortys on most conversions. Let me know if you need more info. I am in the middle of doing this conversion myself. Craig.

Considering the HP you are looking for in your other thread the C4 will be cheaper to build and handle the power. If mpg is a concern AOD. When I built my AOD I spent $1300 in parts alone to beef it up to handle 500 HP and last. That price included $500 for the converter.

thank you for the help, im sure we will be talking alot within the next few months, and i believe i read it in a thread on here, im gonna search and try to find it, because i would love long tubes with the amount of power i wanna throw down.

the truck is gonna be the daily, but i live right next door to my job, but i still wanna cruise the truck and get mnore then 8mpg, the trucks gonna be in the 600+ range with the spray when it gets on the road, so it really is a big toss up with c4 or AOD.

the plan WAS to build a moster 351w track truck, but now since im car-less and all that, i found a good deal on the 302, my enginebuilder/bestfriend called me and told me the 302 i picked up is in near perfect condition, he doesnt even want me to punch it out, but me and my other good buddy put together a nice mild 331 combo, and im leaning towards the AOD just for the mear fact that its gonna be my daily driver when its finished. but everything as far as plan wise could change i havent baught any engine parts, yet :)

A 331 makes it a lot easier to find headers. That AOD would have the 164T bellhousing wouldn't it? That makes clearance for headers a problem usually. Tri-Y's fit the frame good but have to be "tweaked" to get pass the BH. Someone had some good pictures showing how tight it was down there.

Why not a 347 the cost is the same?

my main reason why i wanna go 331 is because one its what my motor guy reccomended and 2 the shorter the stroke the easier it is on the motor and since im a baby bottle type of guy, it just makes more sense to me.
