I'll try and make this short: I replaced my inner and outer wheel bearing in my 96 4x4 ranger. Shortly after doing so, my driver side inner locked up and got trashed. I replaced both inner and outer again, along with doing upper and lower ball joints and tie rods. Again, shortly after 4 weeks, the inner trashed again??? WTF? I've spoken to many people on this and have NO CLUE.
I've gone over the torque specs..did every thing correct. ( I think ) Why or how do I keep losing the inner on the driver side? I packed the bearings very well with the correct grease... I am lost and can find no answers to this.
Thanks in advance,
Terry PS. Any recommendations on the grease to use on the bearings?

are you replacing the races as well or just the bearing:icon_confused:

check the spindle, might be worn out of spec

How much torque are you putting on the inner nut?

35 ft-lbs... 1/4 turn back...then just snug to take out the slop. ( should be 16 in-lbs though )

Also the quality of the bearing matters, I was as always short on cash so I used a set of el-cheap-o bearings and they shredded in a few months :shok:

That could be part it. I did skimp on them. Bought the valu-craft. Not this time, bought the Timken bearings. Guess I'll wait n see. Using a new spindle this time also.

As far as your grease question is concerned, I have been using the tacky red bearing grease for trailers.

You are setting the inner locknut to the correct spec, but what are you setting the outer locknut to? Most would recommend in the 225-250 lb-in. range.
