97 4L OHV 114K 5spd 4wd stock engine, 100% how Ford built it.
Here's the problem...
12/05, truck starts running really rough, like a big time miss fire, triggers CEL. I take it to the shop, they have the truck a total of 3 days and diag as a bad MAF. It takes them till the 3rd MAF to get it to run right. I get truck back, runs great for about a week, then same issue...CEL on, very rough running engine, no acceleration, the thing just falls flat on its face as it slowly idles down till it just stops running. refires and feels like the engine has a gigantic cam in it, sounds like it too...but it just dosent accelerate. back to shop, MAF #4, runs good again for a few days then its angry again. Yet another MAF, a few days, and angry truck. I'm now on MAF #6 with a CEL but it is running fine for now...
Throws codes for lean bank 1 and lean bank 2. The guys at the shop think it is an vacuum leak due to the short and long term fuel trim readings, but cant say for sure, that's just their best guess since it seems to be running fine. They say common issue is a leak at upper and lower intake, as well as the fuel rail gaskets. I need some educated guess from the Ranger community....I cant afford to keep fixing best guess.
