Need help with Fiance's Escort

Its not a Ranger 4-cylinder, but an Escort 4-Cylinder.

It is idling bad now, to the point of shutting off unless she keeps the RPMs up. Its fine under acceleration and driving, only under idle does it mess up. ItT just has an unsteady idle, almost like a rythym. It goes down and up, down and up and then shuts off unless given throttle.

i think its the idle Air Control Valve. Does this sound about right to you?

Specs:

2.0 SOHC
Auto

Sounds like the IAC could use a cleaning and or inspection.

The plunger inside should move freely back and forth.

fixed the problem, it WAS a vacuum leak, the PCV Valve needed a new runnber elbow, had a hole the size of an eminem in it! Now i just have to fix her checkl enginle light that is caused by the purge valve for the gas tank

Was going to say that it sounds like a vac leak also, but you beat me to it. Glad you got her fixed.

Yup check the siggy yo.

Must have been a big hole for Eminem to fit through... just kidding glad its fixed.

Its cool. Its the same engine. 2.0 Zetec.

no its not, not if its a sohc. the 'regular' escorts got a crappy 2.0 spi, only the zx2 got the nice dohc zetec engine.

anyways, glad you got it figured out!

True both the Escort and Focus had the option for the lesser 2.0 SPI engine, but the Zetec was more popular for both vehicles. And the ZX2 had the VCT engine similar to the SVT Focus. The VCT engines were build with Zetec blocks, but different heads to accomodate the VCT cam.

the escort lx *only* got the spi engine (a 2.0 sohc) and the escort zx2 *only* got the zetec engine (a dohc engine with a vct used on the exhaust cam)

they are 2 very different engines.

im not trying to argue something trivial here, after all this means nothing on a ranger forum. but it is what it is....
