Need help with engine speed not matching RPM's after installing a new clutch -

Bad fuel pump could cause that.

Bad pump = less fuel to injectors

Less fuel = engine works harder to do less

more work = higher RPM.

no, it couldn't.

it's a manual transmission, X engine rpm will always equal Y speed in Z gear, no ammount of poorly running engine will change a directly gear driven relationship of rotational speeds.

his problem is electronic.

you misunderstand, changing your tires size will affect your ACTUAL speed PER RPM, not your INDICATED speed PER RPM.

i'm really not sure what you thought i meant that you were correcting me for.

I'm not really sure I have any idea of what you guys don't understand about each other's statements......but I AM positive that I can't help him with the original problem...lots of good info, though......

That logic = bad science

Ok, so I bled the the clutch like 5 times and it seems my truck now runs at 77 mph at 3000RPMS. Also, I put some lucas transmission additive in my tranny. Could the clutch have been slipping at 3000rpms doing 75 mph, but not off the line?:icon_confused:

I wouldn't think so. You can always try Click & Clack's clutch test. Put your front bumper on an immovable object, put it in first and slowly let the clutch out at ~1500-2000 rpm. If you kill the enginge, the clutch is good.

hmmmmmmmmmmm.....had a similar problem with my Harley.....clutch worked fine thru the gears......but after a few miles.....if i gave it a lot of throttle around 60 mph...the tach increased more than the speedometer....once i evened out the throttle the slightly noticeable engine revving sound went away....

the clutch was out of adjustment j-u-s-t enuff to slip at a certain speed/throttle combination after warming up......:icon_rofl:

doorgunner - That is exactly what I was thinking. That it was slipping as I applied more gas, doing 65+. I got a factory ford clutch set for my truck. It had the ford and luk stamp on it. Are these clutches adjustable? I thought they were self-adjusting?

Just a side note (and I feel the need for these on anything that comes out of Click and Clack's mouths), for the purpose of this test, your house does not count as an "immovable object".
