Bad fuel pump could cause that.
Bad pump = less fuel to injectors
Less fuel = engine works harder to do less
more work = higher RPM.
no, it couldn't.
it's a manual transmission, X engine rpm will always equal Y speed in Z gear, no ammount of poorly running engine will change a directly gear driven relationship of rotational speeds.
his problem is electronic.
