yesterday i was leaving in the morning to drive to canton, and i started my truck and it was fine. I went inside to grab my gps and soda. and came back out and my truck was shaking violently. i opened the hood and it looked like it was having a seizure then about 30 seconds later it just died. Oil was all there, had gas. it didnt overheat or anything. i left and went inside trying to figure out what just happened. and i went back to start it again and it made a bit a klunk klunk klunk sound. My only assumption was the cam syncro finally just kicked the bucket. so i put my hand on it and it was the only think that would kick my hand back. thats what i think it is, cause the cam syncro deals with the timing and its almost acting like the timing is so out of wack that its missing almost every cylinder. i only have enough money to fix what it is. I cant hunt for this for a month, i have to be at work in the morning.

If that was your cam syncro you would have heard a whining sound a while before.

Also, IF that was indeed the cam syncro, the actual syncro, then that violent episode was your engine running without any oil pressure.

IF it was the actual sensor, then that was the fuel injectors firing out of time.

HOPE it was the sensor.

if i pull the syncro out, what should i look for to check if thats what it is? and is it possible for a bad cam position setup to cause the engine to miss?

but wouldnt that bring up a code? When the truck is running it brings up NO codes. just runs. (like shit)

ok, so i replace the whole cam synchro setup (put it at tdc, made reference marks, etc) made sure i did it perfect and its still acting up. So i made a phone video of what its doing.

heres the link

best i could do.
let me know what yalls input is.

when I first bought mine I was driving through a parking lot in the mall when it started shaking like you were talking about. The oil gauge was jumping everywhere and then it died on me while I was driving. I took it to the dealer and they replaced some oil sensor and it has been fine ever since

well mine doesnt have an oil gauge. If the oil pressure is abnormal the light will come on. Mine also while its idling, it idles really funny. And just kinda putt putt putts.

I looked at the video. What's that sound? Sounds like you have a plug that blew out of the plug hole.

nope pulled all plugs out to make sure they werent super fouled and they were all perfect. i had just replaced them with motorcraft platinums 10k ago. Its not like a knocking you would hear with no oil pressure. it sounds like something is slapping against something. what i've been thinking is a broken piston rod. just spinning around slapping inside the block.

but a friend of a friend works for north central ford as a ford certified mechanic. So im just waiting to hear back from him.

if i were to pull the valve covers, what is it i would be looking for?

Do a compression test, that will tell you fast enough.

yea a compression test would tell you just the same. If you pull your valve covers off what your looking for is something obviously broke. Rocker Arm or push rod. The 350 in my brothers '72 chevy did that about 4-5 times before he finally upgraded to rollers and some better push rods. Now that was an easy engine to work on. You could change a rocker arm in about 10 minutes easy.
