anyone know why a bike would come with only a center stand and no kickstand?

because someone removed the side stand

because someone removed the side stand

see i could roll with that but i dont see where the spot it would have been attached to the frame is.

il double check in the morning though

If you drop the bike, leaning it back up is the least of your worries. If laying it on its side is such a worry get some damn training wheels........:icon_rofl:

But really, if the bike has any value sell it and get something smaller. If fuel economy is the main concern finding something just powerful enough to carry you around is all you need. My idea is to get a 250-400cc enduro bike. I don't want speed or luxury, just something to ride for 50 mpg.

its not the laying it over im so worried about its the just dropping it due to the fact im a bit of a klutz and i can barely catch it and hold it up when iv bout dropped it moving it round working on it

i like the training wheel ideas though:icon_rofl:

WTF dude? I know they are huge chunks of steel, but I can't think of many bikes that weigh that much more than me, and I am not a big guy.

really? my buddy's bike weighs ~600lbs, im 6'3, 220lbs, 600/220 = 2.73, or almost triple my weight, its not a small bike but it isnt huge either, and alot of people are smaller than me, shit goldwings weigh close to ahalf ton iirc

My 81 Maxim 650 gets a smidge under 50mpg if I'm gentle. It's nice to have the 650 so that when I "need" it, I can turn it up and burn it up! I usually average around 42-45mpg mixed mostly city. Bikes are a huge saver, and the 80's were the best decade for them.

Now onto an important tip: The 550 is probably a similar build to my 650. Once you get her running, make sure to check the tension on the timing chain. The inline 4's are obnoxiously reliable, but if that slips or lets loose, can be notorious to fix.

so my kickstand was tore off the frame :(

Most of what I'm used to dealing with is tiny, low end, mostly plastic crotch rockets though. Mickey Mouse bikes with fiber glass bodies and engines that are at the low end of street-legal.

You guys that actually ride and own Harleys or Goldwings can probably list bikes that weigh almost as much as my truck.

il get pics of it. with a spot out of the frame is it compromised much?
