so turn the key, clioking in dash, 4wd lights flash 6x every 2 minutes. but there is no 20 maxi to check because its a 98 which has a relay instead and it's good. relay in dash = good. t-case shift motor is new. trouble shooting with a mechanic at work says that my electric clutch relay is bad and that it's inside my t-case. now the junk yard offers borg 1354's for 100$ you pull, should i be out a truck for a week while i balance an over full time job and fiance and tear into my t-case, or tear one out of the junker and slap that bad boy in and hope it doesn't fail in 6 months ( that's as long as the junk yard warranty here is). or is my entire diagnosis wrong? can someone please save me here lol. i wanna go play in the mud
You checked the relays good, did you check the computer it sends power to between the relay and the motor? Theres a sticky on here how to check it, you push the button and it flashes so many times I forget. I know explorers around that year had them on the driver side rear inner quarter panel.
Get one from the junk yard and swap it out and fix the one that is in the truck and have a back up one just in case the one from the junk yard fails down the road and you won't have to worry about buying another one with the original one fixed.
If that is the problem that is. Don't do it, if it is not the problem.
