hey! ive just bought an 87 ranger single cab off a buddy for $800 and im looking into putting a sounsystem in it. Nothing too fancy, but im not sure which sub to use and how to mount it behind the seat. im 6ft5 and have the bench all the way back :annoyed: would love to hear if anyone is/was in a similar situation. the budget isnt massive but im thinkin i can do this for about $450CDN? thanks in advance!:icon_cheers:

6x9's in the doors, about the most you can do. maaaaybe a thin sub behind the seat in a custom thin truckbox.....JL audio does make some 13.5" subs that are only 2.5" deep buuut....probably spendy.

450 what????

any way

i dont know what you are looking for when you say sound system, but 450 kinda scares me. any "system" is gonna be a lil more thn that. but first i would replace the head unit. prolly 100 150 bucks any thing normal will work. now i have yet to get the years down yet but id replace the factory speakers, crutchfield says you have 6, 4'' in the dash 6x9 in the door and 5x7 in the back, if you just replace then with like some pioneer, and that can put you very near or a lil over your budget,

now why i say this

up grading your hu with put out better sound quality, if you have a good speaker, with bad sound you get really good bad sound, and it will also allow you to be modular about your system if you deside too.

if you replace your speakers that can do a lil more then they could in 87 lol your 6x9's may be just enuff bass for you, cause if done right that have been pretty bassy for what they are.

now for a sub, if and when:

you need to get a power wedge box or a "truck box", but if you go to any shop you can get one test fited to see i you need one custom made, custom made one arnt really the $$$ people think normally like $25 more the the one they test fitted.... but subs to look at are kicker cvt is thin, pioneer makes one that's like 3 inch thic eclipes has small subs, JL, W0 line are on the thin side too,

there all gonna run you from 150 and up for a sub in the box just one sub one box, also your need a wiring kit and amps your amp will be 250 300ish

all monies are US dollar just fyi

but if you decide to go down the sub way get back to me and we can deal with that bridge when your ready to cross

its possible to do a budget system but I usually figure about 600$ if you want something decent. however if you take your time and wait for deals you've got a shot.

i have an 84 ranger with the bench, heres what i did, 6x9s in the front of the door, and 4 1/2s in the dash with a pioneer deh p4700mp headunit pushing it all. with 16 gauge speaker wire. this sounds really good. from personall experiance, subs behind the bench will drive you freakin crazy, they just vibrate the hell outta your back. but if you want to do subs. i recommend pioneers new pickup series subs. a 400 watt amp, and good pioneer speakers with a pioneer head unit, of coarse you can use what ever name brand you want. but i find pioneer has the best bang for the buck, and sounds very nice.
