Need help please

I changed the FPR today, and it didn't change anything.LOL

What else could it be? A sticking injector?

Have you tested the TFI yet??

how about the a vacuum leak....do the systematic carbon cleaner spay down...ya get to a spot & it start to smooth out, investigate that area further.

And what about the rest of the vacuum ports are they open, not all clogged up with carbon.

I haven't tested the TFI, how would I do that? There's no vacum leaks at all, I"ve checked over and over again. I havent' visually looked into all of the vacuum ports, but when I pull a cover off of them I can hear it sucking, and it makes the rpm's rise alot.

Another question.. Could a weak spark cause the rich condition? I just remembered that when i was setting the timing my timing light would'nt register the spark going through the wire. I had to borrow my neighbors, and it was kind of sparatic. I guess I should probaly replace the cap and rotor...Duh

LOL, yes, if it hasn't been tuned up, do it! They're maintance items and you can rule them out as being the source of the problem.

When you set base timing, did you pull the SPOUT connector?

The ECT can sometimes cause a rich condition, it might be worth while to test it.

There's some other useful info on the site that might help pinpoint the problem.

If you take you TFI in to get tested, you might consider taking a blower dryer to heat it up (to meet the same conditions). There's also some info out on the web for TFI-IV diagnositics.

This thing is driving me nuts!!! I changed the cap and rotor, and had the TFI module tested(tested good), and I'm still getting the rich code. What about the PCV valve? IF it's partially clogged could that cause the engine to be running to rich?? If that's not it, the only other thing I can think of is a bad fuel injector/s?

Finally found the problem. I"ve swapped like every sensor on this damn thing. I've even borrowed a official Ford service manual and spent countless hours doing pinpoint tests on the 42 code. I've done fuel pressure tests, tested for leaking injectors, traced wires, swappes sensors, traces wires, you get the idea.LOL I finally decided it had to be a leaky intake gasket letting water get into the combustion chambers and "fooling" the O2 sensor into seeing a rich condition. This is what I found when I pulled the intake today..

These are the intake pushrods from cyl 4 and 5. So yes I was running smoothly on 4 cylinders. I still can't beleive I was pulling good vacuum, and runing good on just 4 out of 6 cylinders. Hopefully my valves are not bent. I'll know more Monday after I replace the pushrods and can perform a compression test. I still can't beleive this is what the problem was. No noise or any hints that this was the problem.
