whats going on guys! I have a 1999 Ranger supercab. I really looking into doing a solid axle swap for it. but im running into a problem with what to use.. i want the truck to sit high but still be able to roll down the road with out and issue. Im looking for input on what i should use for a leaf spring front plus what ill need for the install for a solid axle and where i can get all of this stuff. also on what to use to make the rear end in relation to the front axle that will be going in. further more, im in no rush its a project but not looking to pay for brand new stuff besides what i need to get. all the input you guys are willing to put in would be great!:icon_thumby:

U have pretty much what i have for a ranger. The best bet would be to look threw every ones build thread and decide what way u want to build it.

I have an idea of what i want to do. but i need help in seeing what i can get out the junkyard from other trucks to make it easier. faberating anything isnt the issue.. i just lost on what to get.

what size tire do you plan on running? what motor? what gears do you want? what are your uses (road, trail, mud, rocks, mall)? we need more info. How high do you want it? remember lower is better for trail use. Do you want full width axles or do you want something close to stock width? we need more info

Im looking to use it as a daily driver after its done only because 1.7 mpg out of my 78 f250 isnt going to cut it lol. im looking to fit 35s under it and still have the room for flex. i am 6' 10" tall and im tired of climbing down into it lol. i like how Ford78 has his truck. im looking for a little ride qaulity. in it now i have a supercharged 3.0L with custom built Trans. i plan on keeping that in there. i will be using the truck on the road, in the trail, and in the mud. and im looking to have axles close to stock width without cutting them

Stock width without cutting...leaves you with Jeep Dana 30 or Early Bronco Dana 44

is it possible to pull one out of a 97 cherokee? i can get one for $50 that way. cuz i dont wana take one out of my 76 bronco. lol thats a project already

I stay away from, the CV axles, and CAD if possible. Do some research. There are plenty of SAS Rangers on TRS that have documented their entire build.

Check out my build threads both the 89 and 93, both links are in my signature.
As far as the Dana 30 being "weak" as everyone says, it all depends on how you wheel it. The weakest part of the 30 is the axle tube and inner c's. Truss it and gusset the c's and it will handle moderate rocks and.some hardcore trails.
I've wheeled the crap out of mine and only problems I've seen with it is the sealed bearing units, they don't like large tires.
I DD mine and drive it to and from the trails, I suggest going with coil springs if you want the comfort of highway driving and flex on the trails.
Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions.

LIAR!!!!
I searched, there are no such threads.

You can get alot of flex out of a leaf spring too, and i think a leaf springs ride pretty good.. I dont always use my ranger for DD duty, but i do use it alot and their is no reason i couldnt use it for a daily driver.
U can also get Dana 44 from a jeep wagoneer and it would be the width u need to be close to stock.

what year? and if so what would i have to run for the rear axle?.. now for the lift in going to run into a slight issue.. idk what to use. i mean ive built plenty of trucks from the ground up. but this is just a whole new ball game. im more into custom engines and drivetrains in just about anything and everything

Heres a link that will tell u all about the dana 44, even the the jeep wagoneer 44 and what years to look for.http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Dana44.htm.
For the rear u can just use your rear axle and get ether wheel adapters for the rear or front if u decide to go with the wagoneer 44 so the wheels match.
For leaves alot go with the Rancho 44044. They flex really good and ride good. For my mounts for the front i went threw Sky offroad and ruffstuff.

I'm currently in the process of building up my Dana 30 out of a 96 XJ. I beefed up my axle, trussed and inner "c" gussets. Check out my thread and see what I am doing. May help you choose what you want to do.:icon_thumby:
