Ok guys trying to leave work to night went to pull out onto the main road and aloud bang and my b2 stopped moving. Got it turned around and off the road.
The drive line is turning and there is a nice grinding noise coming the rear axle.
So I it in 4wd locked the front and got it back to work and left it at work. Ok so my vin tag in the door is worn away and it looks like it says axle code 42 and is there a way to look up the vin and find the axle code. I don't think the tag is on the axle. help or ideas would be much appreciated and i did look in the tech libary

The cross-pin most likely let go. Pretty common in the 7.5. I had one do the same thing.

Code 42 is an open 7.5 with 3.45 gears.

found the problem

the pinion shaft is still in good shape

What is that?

The pinion flange. Ouch, never seen that before.

Are the teeth on the flange stripped? Or are my eyes acting up again...

pinion nut must have been loose

the spline are striped but the pinion still looks good i'm going to put a use flange on it and see how it is. I don't have time to change the axle right now so hoping it will hold out for me.
