well my cousin(the one who helps me with the truck stuff)
is fixing up his 94 2.3 Ranger. he just replaced the clutch. after leaving the truck sitting for like 5 months. but now the truck wont start. seems like the pump is not working.
he checked the main fuse box and everything is fine. the inertia switch also.
seems like the relay is good too.

so is there a way to test the pump without dropping the tank? like a way to bypass the relay or something?
is there a special fuse somewhere?

thanks in advance,
RSH :icon_thumby:

The quickest way to test the pump is to first verify power to the pump. Reach up on top of the tank, unplug it, and then hook a volt meter or test light (Ford says to use a headlight to load test a circuit) and flip the key on. Light lights up, your circuit is good.

Then, if its' good, unhook the tank side of the filter, stick a container under the line, and flip the key on. If you get fuel, then it's not the pump.

You could do a fuel pressure test. Thats the most simple way to figure out if the pump is shot or not.

Same cousin that had his exploder stolen? I hope not - he needs a break.

yep RSH.....he's got a good idea...you have to make sure that the wire connector that plugs into the top of the tank is getting 12v.....if the connecot is getting less than 12v (like 10v or less...that problem needs to be fixed first...then you need to make sure the ground wire connection is in good shape by using an ohmmeter from the ground terminal on the tank connector to the frame).

If all that checks out O.K., but you still can;t hear the fuel pump make the whining noise when the key is turned to the ON position...then you know you need to remove the fuel pump from the tank.

'94 does have a test for the fuel pump on the diagnostic connector. But it's not very helpful without a diagram to know how it works (It overrides the computer's control over the fuel pump relay) and what the next step would be depending if it caused the pump to turn on or not.

Assuming that if fails the test, you still have not proven the pump is at fault. The wiring could be bad, the inertia switch, or the lines could be blocked.

If the circuit passes a load test but no, and key there is NO fuel comes out the open lines, then it's time to start condemning the pump.

That was his brother, not his cousin.

im soo deep in shit that when i take a shit idk if ill open my butt or my mouth.

anyway. he told me today that the relay is not gettin power.
theres no power at the relay terminals.

also another thing: he has to fix a dodge caravan with some auto trans issues. the trans oil cooler exploded inside the radiator. so oil was mixed with water.
he flushed the tranny and it has fresh oil. it worked fine for a few times and now it wont engage reverse.
is it possible that the water damaged the tranny?

is it possible that the water damaged the tranny?

Possible. Very possible. The only thing that usually saves transmissions during that type of failure is that the trans lines have higher pressure than the cooling system.

But trans clutches are stuck to the backing plates with a water-soluble glue. Water will make the trans clutches fall apart.

Then again, it is a Chrysler transmission, and those things would regularly break coming off the carrier from the factory. Might be something else.

he said he changed the oil twice and it worked for a while. now it wont engage reverse.

anyway i dont care about a damn caravan. what bothers me is that the Ranger isnt gettin voltage to the pump relay
