A quick run down. I have a 94 ranger 4.0 5sp. I done a but of custom work and one thing I had to do was put a 90bronco 2 tank in my truck with a 88 bronco 2 fuel pump assembly. The wires to the pump from my truck are pink/black, yellow/white, black, yellow and white. The harnes for the bronco 2 fuel pump has pink/black, orange, black, yellow/white. I had it wired up with all colors that match and the black/yellow going to the orange. It's an fine for two months and it just died going down the road which is where I have been sitting working on it for four hrs. I checked the old fuel pump it wasn't running. I got a new one and installed it primes but doesn't run when turning the key I hot wires the pump and it try's to start but doesn't. Any ideas will help if you need more info ill give what I can. Please help

Put a brand new fuel pump in. The pump will prime but I get no pressure when cranking. I hot wired the new pump directly from the battery so it would run. I have pressure then while cranking but the engine will fire and die just as quick. I unplugged the mass air it seemed to run maybe 5 secs longer but my min change

I'm just wondering if when I originally wired the bronco 2 fuel pump in if I didn't have it hooked up wrong and fried something. My fuel gauge hasn't worked since I did the bronco 2 tank in my ranger. I'm a pretty damn good mechanic but I absolutely suck and electrical for the most part lol

And I'm in a bind since I work 50 miles from home and my other ranger is in the exhaust shop until tue getting the exhaust done from my 351w swap

I looked at my copy of the wiring diagrams in a Chiltons manual and found the 88 B2 had two fuel pumps instead of the one your 94 Ranger has. What I'd do is get the pump for the '89 bronco II (it should fit).

I hope this helps,

The 88 in tank pump won't make the kind of pressure you need to run the engine.

Rick is this pump in the 88 the low pressure pump you think? I just read the bronco 2 had to pumps. I originally had the bronco 2 sending unit and used my original ranger pump in it and this worked until now. So the 89 is not a low pressure in tank pump I take it?

And now that I remember I tried the bronco 2 pump when I first did the swap and it wouldn't start which is why I put my ranger pump in to begin with. No I feel a little stupid lol

Thanks adms08 this is what I was thinking. Thanks everyone for the help I know what I did now lol. But to be sure a 89 will work?

Tiph, it should. On the wiring side, I couldn't find an orange wire in either year going to the gas tank. A black/pink for the pump motor, a yellow/white for the sending unit, and two grounds (black).

There are 2 fuel pumps on the '88 B2, one on the '89 B2 and up.
But you have a '94 Ranger, so no second pump.
But you should be replacing the B2 Fuel tank pump with an '89+ pump, not an '88.

Usual Ford fuel tank/pump/sender wiring is:
Pink/black---from/to inertia switch in passenger foot well, power for pump
Yellow/white---from/to fuel gauge in instrument panel, power from gauge
Black---Ground for fuel pump
Orange---ground for fuel gauge

Not sure why the odd ball wires on the B2 Fuel pump, maybe it passed power to second pump in frame rail, or visa versa.
Fuel pump relay is a common issue with Rangers

Ron,

The inline pump (high pressure), takes its power from the fuel pump relay.

Yea the orange wire is on the bronco fuel pump wiring harness. So I'm not sure what its for. But I really appreciate the help. I'm going to probably just grab a ranger pump and put it back the way I had it before it went out. As far as the yellow and white going to my gauge I still have to figure that out cause my gauge hasn't worked since I did the swap.

Thanks Ron. I'll check out the 89 B2 pump. I looked at a 90 b2 pump today since that's the tank I used but it didn't looked usable for my set up. I did put a new fuel pump relay in but that made no change. But I think you guys are dead one with me having the wrong fuel pump.
