i have a 88 ranger with the 2.9 v6, i just replaced the water pump, it was shot. my head gaskets are fine, no water in crank, but im still loosing coolent, i can smell the sweete anti freez when i turn the heater on, so im thinkin the heater core is leaking but my floor isent wet nice in dry in side so what do you guys think. thanks ,,,,mike:dunno:

If you can smell in the cab, the heater is at least seeping. they are not that much money, $20-30. Greg

I'd check behind the glovebox just in case. It may be dripping just a little bit- enough to smell, but not necessarily enough to make it wet.

also check the a/c condensate drain under the hood for drippage.coolant may be going out the drain if heat core is leaking and you would smell it,but not see it.

Remeber also that the coolant is hot and is evaporating if the leak is not real big.And the same, you would smell it, but not see it.

i dont have a/c, ya im just gunna git a new heater core then, thanks guys for your help....mike

After you get your's done, come on over and do mine. And you can do the radiator as long as you're at it. Greg

That's a fact, and if you ignore it, one day, early in the morning, on your way to work, in bumper to bumper traffic, that sucker will cut loose with some steam and totally fog the inside of your whole cab with steamy kinda greasy antifreeze fog...it's a bitch to get off the glass..and get off the freway safely..and they say it's not recommended to breath the steam for extended periods of time...
