After replacing the battery on my 91 ext cab ranger 2wd 4.0 liter automatic, the battery still goes dead in about 4 days if unattended. I hooked up a multi-meter between the positive battery post and the battery cable, and I have a draw of around 11 Amps (I believe thats the reading). When I unplug the Dome/Courtesy lamp fuse the draw drops to 1. This is with the doors closed and the dome lamp off. Any idea what could be on this circuit causing a drain? The glove box light is shutting off properly, as well as the dome light. Any help is appreciated.

start pulling fuses and see if you find the circuit. The radio and computer and any alarm system are connected direct to the battery also. They draw milli amps tho on my ranger the eec relay was bad and would drain the battery and it souns weird that the light would make a difference because one side of the bulb goes to ground anyway. From my experience check the eec or computer relay I believe it is in the power distribution box under the hood and see if it clicks on and off with the ignition switch. Also does the fuel pump come on when you turn your ignition on or does it stay on it should run for a couple of seconds when you turn the ignition on before you start it.

don't forget to double check all your grounds. then you might look for bare spots on the wiring that might be shorting out and draining your battery. the arching can be impossible to hear, see, and smell from inside the cab. just a thought.
