hey guys... im tryin to sell my 84 2.8 and a friend wants it... he drove it tonight and it started to like miss a lot... but its only in 3 4 5 gears... 1 and 2 are ok... i dont know what it is... i was thinking its the plug wires. plugs fuel pump fuel filter or the carb... anyone else have this problem? thanks for the help..

well if its doing it under load i would definitely start with the fuel filter and plugs. after that check the plug wires and it wouldnt hurt to spray some carb cleaner in it.

know how much a fuel filter is? and yes its only under load at speeds above 30-35 mph... but in 2nd you can rev it rather high... and you can take it out of gear and it revves just fine...

Pull the plugs and check the gap.. regap them to specs and see if that does the trick. Your post reeks of plug gap.

i did that ir is didnt do a bit of a diff.,.. the plugs were yellow...
1 2
3 4
5 6

if they are in that order... #1 and 3 had the mosy yellow ness... what is that from?? head gasket bad?

so i think its a head gasket... how hard is it to replace them? thanks

Might be going lean under load. Check the vacuum line from the manifold to the power valve, it might be cracked or broken.

does that have the PVC valve in it?

So far you haven't posted anything that would indicate a head gasket. The missing you have posted is typical of plug gap, plugs or wires.

Agree sounds like plug issue. If you want to double check yourself on head gasket, pull your oil dipstick. If it's milky brown then yes. If not, head gasket/heads are good.

ok well then on the # 4 and 2 the plugs were really yellow... i was gonna drain the oil out and check it... it needs a oil change anyways... what should they be gapped to
.044?

ok... so i put it at about .045ish last night and it didnt do shit...

Did you check your plug wires while you were at it? Cap and Rotor? Still sounds like a firing issue. If it was head gasket, you'd be having issues with overheating as well, which you haven't indicated.

If all that checks out, next I would look towards is the fuel. Either filter or carb problems. Possibly the pump, but doesn't sound like it.
