ok the other day after i went mudding on my way home my truck died.started to loose power lights dimmed and all the dash lights went on. i had to tow it home. i replaced the alternator and the battery and now it starts right up but does not charge where it is supposed to on the volt meter. any other ideas to what it could be?

Check the belt, wires on it and put a meter to the back of the alt..it might be defective i just installed one on a friends truck and he got 2 that where defective even though a bench test said they were good

had to do the same thing with my friends 2000 3.0, off roading and it died, towed it back and changed the alternator, 3 months later it dies. changed it again and its running strong. yours should be under warranty so it couldnt hurt just to swap them. maybe just for shits and giggles you should clean off the connections on the harness and alternator. if that doesnt work you prob have a short somewhere

okay so i had the alternator checked and yup its bad. im gonna bring it back to pep boys and getting a new one for free. thanks for the help guys.

so the problem is back. i replaced the alternator again and its still not charging right. now i have a check engine light on too.i read the code and it said O2 sensor heater circuit bank 1 sensor 2. the code was P0141. i know its not the O2 sensor because i just replaced them all a few weeks ago and i cant find any loose wires or anything like that. so is it a short somewhere? i am really frustrated with this truck. any advice at all would be great. im not sure what else to do

i'v had the same thing going on in my 99....the parts store told me its the voltage reg inside the alt.......i'm on my 4th alt in a year and my 2 batt.......i just put the new batt in aswell as the new alt.......it seems to have fixed it........but its only been 2 days.......
i left my lights on all night to kill the batt then i jumped it and let it run for 20 mins......then it started right up and is running great again
good luck

so after 5 hours of searching i found that it was a wire going into the alternator that was giving me the problem. now its running great. i still have code p0141 tho. i changed the all of the o2 sensors last week but it wont go away. any ideas? thanks

changed the o2 sensors since the code, and 4x4ing?

if you sucked any water into the intake, there's a chance you burnt out a brand new o2 sensor...

I had a Ford Contour that was giving me the O2 sensor heater circuit code and there was a fuse in the under the hood fuse panel that was bad. I would check the fuses on your truck first before replacing anymore o2 sensors.
