need help..2.9 running a little funky

if some one could give me some ideas on wat this problem could be that would be lots of help. some times when driving my truck wen its all warmed up and everything ill be driving and and and wen i come to a stop my rpms will be jumping around and ill give it gas to try to keep it running and it will puff black smoke out of the tail pipe and it will smell like lots of gas but it doesnt do this all the time and its not always the same. sounds like its to rich to me, but im not sure would it be because a bad valve ajustment? or a senser? this truck has been threw alot so its hard to know wats wrong im on my second motor and second engine wiring harness due to fire...

Well a good place to start would be to get codes...this will help point to the issue. and save you some cash so you just don't replace parts in hope that eventually cure your woes.
