im currently in an auto body course at the local technical college, i am in an online math class because one math class is required to get the certficate in auto body. My problem is im not doing to well in the online class and im a little behind on the homework, school from 8-2 and work from 2-5 with a 90 mile round trip leaved me worn out at the end of the day, and on wednesdays i help out with the kids at church means i dont get home till about 9 or 10 on wednesdays. So it really leaves me exhausted and not wanting to do the online class.

Now next year im going back to get my basics, so should i drop the online class and just get my certificate at the same time i get my basics, and try to save my gpa this semester.

Im not sure i can pass the online class, so is it worth the struggle now? ive already paid for the class but its gonna hurt my gpa and possibly i may have to take it again anyways. so im not sure its worth even continuing with.

the upside is if i passed it i would be done with my math and get my certificate this year instead of next year, but im not really worried about when i get my certificate since ill hopefully be ase cerfied anyways.

I could really use some advice from someone that can view this from an outside perspective

I've found that I tend to spend too much time on TRS when I should be studying lol. Maybe you should temporarily ban yourself from here.

lol well im on here for like 10 minutes a day unless i have a problem.

but im thinking of dropping it to save my gpa since my 2 scholarships depend on a good gpa,

and my internet is questionable about when it will work and not work

I would drop it to save your GPA. You can always take it over again later when your schedule is less demanding.

I get that working on top of school is rough.

Hi,

I understand your plight very well. My husband asked me to respond to you as I am not only an adult student attending school online, I work for a university. First of all, have you reached out to the teacher? The teacher is the first line of defense in a situation like this. The teacher can extend deadlines, create extra credit opportunities or explain trouble areas. Are you accessing the tutorial software or websites on the internet? Face it, your life is not going to get easier next year and math won't get more interesting. Secondly, how much longer is the class? Is there any chance that a bit of tutoring would help you pass the class with a D? You have paid for the class and you do not want to go through this again, right? I would stick it out and hope for the best. I struggled in my online math classes and found the math for dummies website to be very useful. By the way, what type of math class is it? Did you use financial aid or federal grants to pay for the class? If so, you should check with the school to make sure that the funds will not be returned if you drop. Good Luck!

yep. drop and save your gpa.

had to do this a couple times... got a course w/ a teacher that was a complete tool a few times. check out www.ratemyprofessor.com before enrolling and look at the reviews.. if the prof has enough good reviews, take the class.

something else to look at is the schools policy on retaking after getting a D or F. some schools will replace the grade if you get a better one or above a C level on the next round.

this also might affect your scholarships tho, because until you do retake the class and get a better grade, you are still dealing with an F or D in your current GPA.

Can you even drop it still without it effecting your GPA? In my school, deadline this semester for withdrawal is Feb. 26, but it changes from school to school...

If you are so busy now, are you going to be less busy at your next chance to take this course? You make mentions of scholarships... does a withdrawal have any effect on them?

I see your problem, its definately a tough call. As mentioned, check to see if dropping a class is still allowed at that school, and that if you do whether or not it will affect your scholarship regardless. I know some require a full time status, and if missing one class puts you below that then your no longer eligible. How bad are you actually doing? I am an engineering student, so I know all too well how difficult math can be :dunno:. I definately think that learning from an actual teacher is a much better way than from an online class though.

I would talk to the teacher before you do anything. He/she may not realize your struggling, and likely will put in the effort to get you a good mark. After all, their job is to teach you. It may just be a small fundamental concept that your having trouble with, which everything else is based on. I'm not sure how your system works, and what is affected by GPA, so my advice may not apply to your situation. I have learned the hard way though that dropping a class early, or without talking to anyone about it, results in a lot of trouble down the road that you had no idea was coming. I would talk to your prof, and try to get some extra tutoring if you need it.

my school is kinda weird we our last day to drop is the day our intent to graudate form is dues, so i still have a while to drop.

and next year i should be less busy since i wont have as big a schedule for school next year, and the scholarships arent affected as the ones i get, i got before taking the math class, im a full time student without the math class.

regular schedule= 15 credit hrs schedule+math= 18 credit hrs, and im a freshman and they tell you not to take over 15 in your freshman year and now i know why

I can relate to you. Im pulling an all nighter to study for two test tomorrow. Had an essay test yesterday (Wednesday) and today (Thursday) I have another essay test and a lab exam that apparently is hard as hell and I havent been able to study for either till Wednesday afternoon. Running on nothing but coffee and Jack3d.

I say you man up... It is 4:52 AM right now and i am up and drunk and plan on attending physics at 9:30 AM. You paid for the class so why waste your money? I know being tired sucks (im at a real college not tech school) but grow a pair and suck it up. Im not trying to be an a**hole but 10 years from now, when you look back, your gonna say "wow, i was a bada** for putting up with that"
