HI guys came to you, as you definitely should know the answer to this.!
I have an older 95 ranger 4.0 4x4... the tranny is starting to give me trouble..
there are obvious other issues as well. but I have this opportunity to pick up a 1999 Ranger 4 x 4 that had an engine fire. it is being sold as is for parts, I certainly can use a lot of extras like a radio and maybe A/C parts, even a newer truck bed and tail lights, maybe even rotors and discs etc. just need to know if this vehicle is pretty much inter changeable? I was looking into a rebuilt tranny only, but if this one has a lot more extras to cannibalize, I can get it almost at the same price. would like to hear your imput thank you TC

trans won't work

Ohhhh, Really,
Thank you for the reply... !

can you explain it a little, Why, I wouldn't have thought they changed the tranny too much in the 4 years?

I think in 98 they went to the electronic trans. Look up in the tech section here it's pretty much all covered there.

Denise,

Please see this ?
I am reading the from the tech area that the 5R55E 99 Ranger Trans is Identical to the 4R55E Transmission on my 95 ranger except for the 5th speed ?
I am not sure I am reading this correctly and if this means they can be interchanged ?
Are you more up on this? I am certainly am not...
anyone can pitch in here as well to know
if I can drop mine out and put in the newer 5R55E transmission ?
my 95 Ranger 4.0 ltr 4R55E with a 99 4.0 ltr 5R55E
or is this doomed.

I'm really not up on all the interchangeability of parts year to year, there are people on that forum that really know the trucks I'm sure they will Chime in at some point maybe it will work!

Automatic transmissions are controlled with software in the PCM. Having a newer trans with an extra gear won't work becasue the software in the PCM that controls it isn't there on your truck. There may be other issues as well since your truck is OBD1, and the donor truck is OBDII. Things like Vehicle Speed Sensors may have moved around.
