Hi to all just join the forum, what a great place this is. I had a 99 4 cyl i believe it was a 2.3 or 2.5(not sure about 6 years ago) and never had any issues, great mpg, i was very happy but i had it for work aswell and security isn't all that on trucks, long story short sold it. Now i am in the market for another one, Any advice from you guys on what year truck and motor i should look for, maybe there some year motors better than others? I hear lima, duratech whats the difference.

Well, what do you want to do with the truck? And FYI that 99 would have had the 2.5l Lima.

Lima: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_OHC_engine#2.3_OHC

Duratec: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Duratec#Duratec_23

If you want the more powerful Duratec you are looking at 01 and newer. If you like the older body styles though, you will be stuck with the less powerful Lima motor. And you will also have to deal with 8 spark plugs on the Lima. All depends on what you want. Or you could go with the 4.0 V6, which is one hell of a motor. I can vouch for it.

Anything after 2011...lol

I guess it really depends on what you want...even though I like the Gen 1 and II body styles, I would look at a Gen 3 from 93-97 model years...just to move up a notch without moving into a higher insurance bracket...

If you like leg room...get an extended cab...if you like power...get a 4.0...if you live in an area that has considerable snow fall then look into a 4x4...

i know after driving my b2 and a ranger with the 4.0, it'd be hard for me to get a 4 cylinder

Don't know for a fact, but the newer rangers are probably cheaper to insure- airbags, anti-lock brakes, etc. Value doesn't really have much to do with rates believe it or not...
