I have a 1990 ford ranger 4x4 and I need some help in repairing two rust holes on the top of the cab close to windshield by the rain gutters. They are not to big just would like to fix them to insure that they are not causing any other unseen damage. I've read about POR 15 and other rust repairs online and just wonder if any others may have ran across the same problems and how did they repair them.

Thanks John

Alot of folks on here use por 15. I've only seen rust spots in that location on a few rigs. I would probably cut it out then spot weld in a patch and do some autobody work. There is a pretty extensive section on this in the tech library

POR 15 is great at stopping existing rust but if you don't get both sides of the metal it can still rust and it also does not fix the actual rust holes that are already there. That location is also a pain because to really fix it, you will probably have to remove the windshield.

The best approach is to do as Swynx mentioned and cut out the bad metal and weld new in. If you are only going to keep the truck for a few more years, POR 15 and some silicone sealant will probably fix it. won't look pretty, but it will be sealed.

Same area with same problem. Got it taped over waiting for Spring to get that area cut out right, windshield needs replacing anyway.

I've had that issue, caught it before it got really bad and was able to fill it with a little SEM high build self leveling seam sealer when I re sealed the rain gutters. It appeared that the dried out sealer is what caused the rot to start.
