So, I purchased a 1997 Ranger XL, single cab, *automatic* (need something to get me to and from work and as a DD for this TERRIBLE traffic around my area! Ugh!) Not to mention the fact that I have a COMPLETE, SPARE 97 8 Plug sitting at the house - from where it was pulled out of my 97 XLT Single Cab, for the replacement motor...
The 87 Turbo Coupe Motor!!!!
So with that said... I DO have GENERAL KNOWLEDGE of the motor (more of a dizzy and 4 plug kinda guy though!)
Don't LIKE CPU's!!!!! Lol...
Anyways... I paid $400 for it. Its been sitting for about 12+ months, since it last ran!
Guy didn't mention this when I purchased it for the SUPER cheap price - regardless, it was a "steal" for ME!
So, the gas was OBVIOUSLY old. I got ALL of it out using the fuel pump, while having the fuel filter disconnected and just turning it over FOR DAYS! lol.... Then I finally put good gas back in it, with a dose of seafoam. I checked fuel pressure and had 40psi at the "shrader valve"
Anywho! The rreason it stopped running was because one of the nipples that comes off the 4 way splitter (that goes to the heater core) broke off and antifreeze messed up a cpl of wires AND got on the two ignition coils. I had two spare coils from my truck and went and bought the 4 way splitter. I also stole the sparkplug wires I needed (but I must admit that the EXHAUST sides are not all that "great") Nonetheless, this motor SHOULD RUN on JUST the intake side right??? We checked the spark on all 4 plugs on intake side and replaced them, I disconnected the rear coil and we just CANNOT get this thing to START! EVEN WITH STARTING FLUID! (That's a HUGE "sign" though!)
So.... Lets see what we have!
- I HAVE spark, 110%, on INTAKE side (new plugs and GOOD wires!) and SOME weak spark on exhaust side (when coil is connected - SHOULDNT HAVE TO BE NONETHELESS!!!)
- I have gas according to the shrader valve and my fuel pressure tester (NOT mentioning blasting starter fluid into it while its turning over!) Ha!
- I have air, as the stock box is all hooked up with its connections and other connections as well, electrical and "mechanical", all the way from the MAF to the valve cover vent hose/ connection
The Exhaust looks brand new and we DID get a "sputter" last night - when the old plugs were still in!?!?!?!
I thought for SURE after a plug change/check and some new fuel would get her going.... Only thing I can think now is freakin TIMING and/or COMPRESSION! I had the compression tester THERE, but the spark plugs were giving me SO MUCH HELL, that I just deciced to check spark and get em in as fast as possible!
★COME ON TRS - HELP ME ONE MORE TIME.....!!!★
Lol... Yea RIGHT!
MUCH APPRECIATION TO WHOEVER TRIES TO HELP AND A "THANK YOU, SO FREAKING MUCH" (in advanced! Haha!)
Help?
