Ok so I'm looking to do a suspension lift on my 96 2wd, but after searching quite a bit I've come up with way too much info. Sorry if this is a complete noob question and repost, but I know everyone's lift needs are different.

I want at least 2 in but the more the better, as this is my first liift I would prefer a direct bolt up, and not having to change out brake lines and stuff. What do you guys think bout this kit http://store.4wheelingplus.com/proddetail.asp?prod=515H&cat=63 is it overpriced? Complete? Will it give me a true suspension lift with blocks in the rear? Or can you guys point me in the right direction for a cheaper more effective setup. I'm looking for a level look after all is said and done, and I want some more overall articulation. Nothing too hardcore but enough to get through some ditches. I do plan on installing a rear locker later.

Any help would be appreciated along with links to the products themselves. I just want to do my homework and not end up with my truck on stands waiting for correct or needed parts. This is my daily driver after all lol. If it matters it is currently stock and is riding on 31's.
 
Look on Ebay and see what they have for your year truck and your suspension. You will not need longer brake lines. I did a suspension and bl and I never had to change the brake lines, Bro.
 
With lift kits, they pretty much are bolt on. You just have to remove rivets holding your stock brackets on. Then bolt on the new drop brackets and attach your old components on. I've heard straight from Rough Country that you do not need longer brake lines, I'd get the kit and double check after the install. Plus you don't get any more affordable with the Rough Country kit. Unless all you want to do is level your truck out. Then it can get even cheaper.

my goal was a 3 inch front lift and 2 in the back. so i ended up here:

basically what im saying is, dont invest unless your 110% sure thats what your looking for. also, dont have ass and buy the cheap thing cus you have $1000, when the good one is $1400. you'll regret it.
 
^ i agree, you need to have a good solid idea of what you want the outcome of your lift to look like, then we can advise you on the most cost effective way to lift your truck. if you want to go with a 4" lift i thing the RC kit will be your best route, rather than piecing together a kit with different components from different brands. youre also going to want to decide what size tires you want to run and regear accordingly, preferably at the same time that you install your locker. do you have an open or L/S carrier in your axle because thats going to have a big impact on whether you can just drop in the locker after you regear (if you have an open carrier you can just drop it in) or if you are going to need to get another axle with an open carrier so you can install the locker (if you have a L/S carrier youll need to go this route).
 
Well unfortunately I'm on a budget, a tight one. But I do understand the importance of quality. What I'm saying is I'm having trouble finding any quality lifts for 3rd gens. Anyways I would like to go as high as I can without losing streetability, having to change brake lines etc. 31s feel good right now and at most id go 33s. I want suspension not body and I have an open 7.5. I'm looking for the best quality I can afford, basically tried and true kits, I don't want to piece together or do a lot of fab work. So does that help? Also I'm not looking to upgrade the diff, so any advice on lockers is welcome.
 
Sorry meant to put that 4 or 6 inches would be preferable, I had just read previously that 2 to 3 was the highest you could go without running into major problems, but again that's why I'm asking here for first hand experiance and tips.
 
Washer lift. Easiest 2" lift you will get. It'll allow room for 31's. Meets both your requirements. Add a 2" or 3" body lift on top of that and you got your 4-5" of lift. Maybe even room for 33's. Otherwise you are shit out of luck if you don't have the money to spend on a full lift kit or if you don't want to settle for a smaller lift. That's my $0.02, I've done the washer lift and it's better than nothing. Also note, with a 2" lift, there really isn't much of changing brake lines or other modifications. The only thing you would have to do is get an alignment. That's it.
 
I've thought about that but seems kinda iffy. My original thought was slight lift like the rough country I posted plus a washer lift. Hmm just post recommended lifts and maybe I can see the prices? What's the price range for a decent lift in the 3 to 4 inch range and then the 5 to 6 inch range? Maybe I can get a better idea of what kinda budget I need.
 
Also I'm already running 31s :)
 
Anyone? Where are the gurus lol. getting ready for the snow?
 
rough country is the cheapest option. its a complete kit, with everything you will need. go with that, get a ford 8.8 axle so you can install a locker, and 33's. call it a day.

Rough Country is going to be the lowest price lift. I think its like $420 or something for 4" lift. Skyjacker makes excellent lift kits for third gens. You have many more options but they are much more expensive. I want to say over $1000 for 6". I would stick with 31s. If you start thinking about 33s find an 8.8 axle with a good solid gear ratio
 
Ok is the rough country lift reliable? Could I maybe use it with the washer lift? Lol get the extra inch or two? I'll prob stick with the 31s for now.
 
And hows the ride on and off road? Shocks holding up ok? Was alignment a pita?
