Coming in second just makes you the first loser!
So my engine is in and all bolted up. We are very close to being ready to fire it up for the first time in it's life but I need a proven working tune to start with! I have the PCM out of the Explorer but I'm not sure it's going to work. There is nothing stock about the engine! Any of you all who have a running EFI engine able to send me a tune to start with? It's a 302, .030 flat tops, aluminum GT40 heads (eBay), 270 cam, 6:1 roller rockers, Trick Flow TracHeat intake and a 90mm Trick Flow throttlebody.

Do you have a SCT X4 Tuner?

Does your ECM have a EQE3 prefix?

I have a custom tune for a .030 overbore 302 (306) with the following.

24 lb injectors
Ported GT 40P Heads, ported GT 40 upper and lower
Comp Cam XE-264-HR Cam
Rear O2 delete
PATS delete
Auto Trans Function delete

It should get you started and driving if you have the tuner and a matching ECM.

I just purchased the SCT Advantage III software and I have an X3. I will have to get my code when I go to the garage next time.

Sounds good, just let me know if you want me to e-mail you a copy. You should be able to load it with what you have provided the ECM is a EQE3 prefix. If it isn't you can find them on eBay for a 2000-2001 Explorer/Mountaineer for around $35.00.

Shoot, I was planning on a 5.0 very similar to yours, but my ECM is an EQE4 from a 2001....

If you can shoot it over to me that would be great! Even if the code is not the same I can use BinaryEditor to compare them and highlight the differences. Much appreciated!

Do you want the .cef file extension or the .mtf file extension? I am guessing you might need the .mtf version if you want to make changes before loading. I do have both.

The .mtf please! Thanks a bunch!

I'm jealous. That's the engine/trans combination I wanted for my 2002 Ranger but Colorado emissions will not allow it.

I did a 1993 Ranger with a 1995 5.0 crate engine back in 1997. Florida still had emissions testing at the time but the truck passed with EFI, Cats, 5 speed and a pretty stock set up.

I went ahead and e-mailed both versions. Let me know how it turns out.

Hey, thank you so much! Had my guy look it over and this will put us way ahead in the game! Can wait to turn the key for the first time and bring it to life! I just purchased the headers for it today. I'm hoping they fit! I am using GT40 (non P) heads so the spark plug angle is different.

Good deal. What headers did you get? I was just replying to your other posts on the subject. I know exactly how you feel about the first start up. Although mine now has over 210,000 miles I just got home 45 minutes ago from my sons shop. New cam, new lifters, new timing chain. New water pump, etc. it runs like a different truck. Loads of power. Wait until you see the cam that came out!!! I will post some pics on another thread later this week. Amazing it even ran before.
