Need a new truck, opinions?

So long story short, my engine is toast so i need a new truck. I want an extended cab 4x4 auto and probably a 4.0. Im looking to pay less than $5000. What years would you guys recommend? Truck will be my daily driver and won't be wheeled. thanks

for your price range I recommend 1998-2000. IMO my favorite front end.

Going from a ohv to sohc myself i can feel comfortable saying a sohc will rape a ohv hands down.

X 1,000!!!!!

I still drive an OHV every now and then and I think, what a turd......
then I get in my truck, dump the clutch first, second, and third.... smile and breathe a sigh of relief.

How reliable are these engines(4.0), or a better question, what mileage range should I be looking to get one in? I've always read how indestructible the 3.0s are but now mines pretty much dead at 128,000 so I dont really know if I want to go a bunch of money on a truck with like 130,000 miles only to have it die a year later.

The 4.0's don't have the same rep.........
but my bosses went 280k and he sold it running (4.0)

Ive seen a few sohc with around 200k for sale, no reason they wouldnt last just as long if taken care of.
