Sat for 5-6 years and I’m trying to get it running again. Ran perfect when parked. Only parked because it needed brakes and I had several cars and didn’t want to put the money in it at that point.
I couldn’t get it started other than with starting fluid. I wasn’t getting power to the fuel pump at first, so I changed both the fuel pump relay and the EEC relay. Fixed all loose grounds and finally got power to the pump but the pump Wasn’t working. Replaced the pump and the fuel filter and now it has fuel flow, which I verified by pulling the return line off of the fuel rail and bumping the key. Truck still won’t start. I pulled the plugs and they have no fuel smell or wetness to them. I did check the injectors with a test light and turning the key and it is something signal to the injectors. So my thought would be injectors and fuel pressure regulator next?

Any help would be greatly appreciated on this one

probably clogged the injectors... I would absolutely positively not replace them with aftermarket (aftermarket in fuel injectors is just pure junk), pull em, clean em up, bench test em/ play with em till you get em firing well...

Sidenote question, just how bad was the gas... anything past a year is probably suspect, past 5 is a guarantee... did it smell rotten and sweet at the same time like a bucket of fruit well past it's expiration, orange and "chunky" - cause chunky yeah that is a clogged injector if it ever got pressure pushing bad behind it.

From the sounds of it I would try to jump 12V across the injectors with fuel pressure present to try to get them to open, I agree they're probably stuck closed...

I didn’t see the gas gummed up anywhere when replacing parts. But, it did smell like varnish until the fresh gas I put in the tank replaced the nasty stuff in the lines

Still don’t have running (waiting on my new injectors to arrive in hopes that it fixes the problem.

I was wondering if anyone would have a clue as to which rear drums I have. The truck isn’t here as it’s at work. I’m doing new fronts and I figured I might as well do the rears while I’m at it.
it’s an 88 xlt 2.3 non abs with 14” wheels.. from what I read the 14 inch wheel option should be 9”?
just want to verify before hitting the order button for drums, shoes, wheel cylinders and brake lines

Thank guys!

Tony

I ordered new ford injectors. Didn’t want to take a chance

Only way to be sure on drums is to look at them. Ford built so many variations.

It's probably a 90% chance you have 9" drums witih all that, I don't think the 10" drums were all that common in the '80's...
