I am looking for a fuel pump for my 86 B2. I seen that there are two of them on the truck one mounted to the frame and one in the tank. I saw those two on LMC but they want $200+ for both and looking on ebay they have them for $120 or so for both. Just not sure what two I need part number wise and I'd hate to order the wrong stuff. I am not even sure which pump is bad but I believe I have the problem narrowed down to fuel. I figured I'd just replace both so I won't have to deal with it later on. Anyone here have any experience on ordering one from ebay?

This is the pump in the tank: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Airtex-E209...d|Model:Bronco+II&hash=item231879798a&vxp=mtr

This is the pump mounted to the frame: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-FUEL-PU...d|Model:Bronco+II&hash=item231df616f7&vxp=mtr

Any input is appreciated. I am not trying to skimp by with the cheap garbage just trying to not spend money that isn't necessary. Thanks everyone!

Also could use some help with the filters and there location. I know there is one behind the driver door inside of a case, but is there another inline filter anywhere else. Thanks!

There is only 1 fuel filer, in a canister underneath your rig on the driver's side. Inline filters are only in newer model vehicles. As for the pumps, if you're willing to get your hands dirty, they're only about $10.00 at Pick N' Pull apiece; take an afternoon and rip them out at the 'yard.

the only thing about a pull-a-part pump is they could work great for the rest of the trucks life or not work at all.

Yeah I want to put in new ones I have a ranger that has both pumps I could take it out of but I'd hate to replace a 26 year old fuel pump with a 26 year old fuel pump and risk it burning out like this one did.

does anyone know if the fuel pump in the tank and the pump on the frame are the same pump just in two different locations? I havent looked at it yet the truck is at my dads house and when i go down there i want to have the pumps with me so i can swap them out and get it back on the road again.

They are two very different pumps. The one in the tank only produces about 5 PSI to supply fuel to the main pump on the rail. If your tank has never been opened up, it may just have a lot of rust/trash floating around in it--and there is a "sock" filter on the bottom of the fuel sender unit which is supposed to stop all that stuff from going upstream. If that sock is bad, you could be pumping junk to the main pump.

The main pump puts out about 35-40 PSI and is much larger. I bought one from RockAuto--one of the $45 pumps and it was DOA. It ran, but would not produce pressure. I recommend spending a little more so you get a little better quality.

Have someone put their ear next to the fuel tank filler tube when you turn the key on and they will be able to hear the in tank pump if it is running.

well after much deliberation I found out that the pumps were fine it was actually the connector that plugged into the fuel pump relay. One of the wires got pulled out of the connector. Boy I am glad I waited to take the truck apart before I bought the parts because I would be upset to buy $150 worth of parts and only need so electrical tape :yahoo:

Don't talk about things you don't know about.

There is an inline filter forward of the high pressure frame pump. The proper part number is FG-800-A. It is mounted to a small shield and secured there with a large hose clamp. If you lay under the truck, feet out, look right at the high pressure pump and then look up and to your right. You should see it.

The canister filter is not generally serviced as many of them don't even have an actual filter medium in them, just a screen that is meant to trap large debris.

I have an 86 ranger and I have two filters. One in the canister and one on the frame rail?
