I know a lot of guys here are firefighters which is what i am going to school for right now. I am looking to change schools though to get my Firefighter I/II and all the schools I am looking at require you to have your own turnout gear. My question is what kind of gear do you guys use and what would be a good kind to get? Also if you guys know any good schools throw some names out so I can look into them.

You have to go to school to be a firefighter? Hell, where I'm at you walk in and sign up, you go through some training and bitchwork (mopping, cleaning the trucks, etc) then your in.

:D

here its really competitive to get on with a department. the way i look at it the more schooling i have the better chance i have.

right now i have all globe gear and i like it pretty good , i have leather boots , which is the greatest thing you can get

i have used morning pride too , but i didnt think it was that great

yeah it seems like leather boots are the way to go from what i have heard

dude , they are like wearing sneakers , i could work in them all day , they are so comfortable

If you can afford it, get Morning Pride gear. It is the best gear I have ever put on.

Leather boots are a must as well. They are as comfortable as any work boot I have ever wore.

Check out places like www.galls.com or www.thefirestore.com for your gear. Also, check out eBay.

morning pride and globe are the ones i have been looking at most. what kind of leather boots do you guys like best? i went through my EMT class with uncomfortable boots and it was a huge mistake. i learned to never underestimate a comfortable pair of boots.

i use Morning Pride turnouts and my boots are the standerd rubber boots but i have the shoe fits witch are a vast improvment over the standard fit imo but as Mjones said the best is the leathers. will you be getting the whole 9 yards?(turnouts, boots, helmet, ect)

Look to spend about $2,000+ on everything.

ohh and be prepared to need gear that will meet the 2011 NFPA standards but if you buy brand new they should already be ready for that.

yeah i gotta get everything. depending on what school i end up going to i may even need to supply my on SCBA and spare tank.

I would find a new school. An SCBA and spare tank will cost itself $5,000+. Then you are stuck with it after school.

I can see where you would have to supply you own mask though.
