I agree with everything Smokeeater stated, but the structure with long cuffs suck balls when you are if your coat has the cuffs that slip over your thumbs.
But I think I would look for a diff. school. Most of the Jr. Colleges out here have a FF. I/II class and they all provide gear and SCBAs.

And Koda it is very competive to get a Career job. I have two degrees and it took me 5yrs to get on a Dept.
A average city Job. Like Phx fd will hire 15-20 guys and there will 4-5 thousand people testing. I have waited up to 2.5hrs to get into a test.

I would find a new school. An SCBA and spare tank will cost itself $5,000+. Then you are stuck with it after school.

I can see where you would have to supply you own mask though.

yeah i dont think i will be going to that school. i can handle my own turnout gear but i thought supplying your own SCBA was kinda crazy.

Ah. That would be the difference. City vs Small town setting.

I live in a little munchkin town.

very true i had meant the gauntlets but eh after being up working all night things slip the mind. and they rescue/extraction gloves are nice to have too. the school that i went to had loaner gear that was there if you needed it but they preferred that you have your own.
As far as SCBAs were they had 3 types to be used: Scott, ISI, and MSA. I had used and knew how to use all three witch is a good skill to have being that while they all share the same basic idea each will have there own Lil quirks.

Odie your very very right about the competition to get on the big dept.s even my small town next door when they hired paid on call it was people from all over the state that showed up.

Talking SCBAs my dept. just went to the new Drager(sp) has to be the most comfortable scba I have had on, the back plate is adjutable. the hip section swivels so the bottle is always square on you back. Also the bottle is low enough on the back that the traditional helmet wont hit your helmet as you look you up to pull ceiling. We are also suppost to get the bluetooth setup with it. Prior to this we had the MSA firehawk II.

Here is a link to the new SCBA. Drager Pss 7000

OOOOHHHHH we need some of them. we use MSA right now but we do have a few "Traning only" dragers.
