Still tryin to figure out what its made from, I took a sample and its a plastic, a very old plastic. It was sprayed onto the truck like a bedliner, but it has a water moisture absorbing trait. weird. guess thats how it protects from rust. (paint keeps it from absorbing from the outside, but it will absorb moisture from the inside where it is not covered). flawed, but idk.

any ideas?

Also, the entire hood has it on it, the hood is rusted through underneath, but it looks stock from the outside with the coating on it, even on the inside it has the coating. The hood looks more like a fiberous material though, perhaps UV protection? Im just guessing, someone please feel free to jump in on this.

I have seen the hood thing on other ranger's from earlier years with a black color.

IMHO, I don't think what's on your truck came from Ford. I think someone tried to cover over rust and/or dents.

I agree. I think it looks like Bondo as well. It looks like it's tan in color, just like Bondo.

Im confused as to why the entire side of the truck is all bondo then, and under it is flat metal. If someone can explain it, I'll believe it. Im just confused now.
