My tranny pissed itself...

I'm about to hit the highway with a buddy and a couple coolers in my '94 Ranger when I come to a stoplight. Turns green, I give it gas but the transmission doesn't engage right away for the first time ever. Same thing at the next light and suddenly there's smoke pouring out the back as I'm hittin' 55 mph. Pulled over with the engine on I see cherry red tranny fluid flow out. I cut the engine and it stops, so I crank one more time and watched it drain empty. I had no problem getting up to speed while it was smoking so I believe I blew a seal for the trans pump, but my knowledge is limited in that area. What else could be my problem? Any advice much appreciated.

Where is it leaking from? I was thinking that it could be anything from a line to a seal to even a cracked bell housing.

You've gotta crawl under there and look for yourself. Hoses, is it coming out of the bellhousing, tailhousing maybe.

Well i got the tranny out, the bell housing is fine the torque converter is still full of fluid. I think its the main tranny seal that went bad but i cant tell... it still looks ok. the fluid lines are fine too, idk what else besides the seal that could be bad.
