My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Well as it turns out i won't be doing my 351 swap.

I traded the 351 and 4.56 gears that was going into this

for this

because it says this on the hood (and has it under the hood)

to start with I traded my LandCruiser that had a swiss cheese frame for the bronco. the bronco started dieing a week after I bought is and finally died after 2 weeks. I bought a roller cammed 351 from a 97 F250 and a set of 4.56 gears for it. I was at a friend's house today to see if he knew how to set up a diff. he asked what for and I told him i was doing a 351 swap and 4.56 gears to my Bronco. We got around the subject of where i got the engine and it turns out I out bid him on it........ long story short he reminded me that I have been looking for a diesel pick up and he gave me the pick out of the five 6.5L TD farm trucks he has. This was the nicest and all those little quirks about the 6.5L TD have already been dealt with and upgraded on this one. The transmission was new 2 years ago and it was his daughter's DD so it was well kept and maitained. Its rock solid but it needs 2 new batteries and an alternator and the A/C needs to be charged, and it has a leaky injector. plus the body is pretty much rotted out but the frame, floor pan, and the inner bed are all in good shape. He wanted the engine and gears for his cherry'd out EFI 351/E4OD powered 79 F150 high boy that he is building. As he put it "I have five 6.5L chevys, but I only got one Ford and thats my baby"

its a 94 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 4l80E with 197,XXX on the clock. I put 75 miles on it before i agreed to the trade and checked out the 4wd really good. It must be a light duty 3/4 ton because it is 6 lug with a semi-float 14 bolt..... I didn't know such a beast existed.........

so far i like the Turbo Diesel and have a hard time keeping my foot out of it

and on the topic of scores.......

I bought this

102_0123.jpg

off of craigslist for $2500 and it only cost me $500 and a case of beer to fix the plumbing and the wiring...... this is was taken the week we moved in.

[EDIT] ignore the date on the pic, that camera was dieing and it was 10* below 0F when the pic was taken. the other pics were taken with teffie's new camera. We moved in the last week of December. Dec 27 infact [/EDIT]

[EDIT] thats out Chrysler buried under the snow, back when we couldn't drive it because it was too cold for me to go out and fix the brakes [/EDIT]

I usually never get lucky on a trade......... I got lucky on the house because it was owned by a seminary student that sold it on a quick sale because he graduated and was headed back to spokane.

The really cool thing about the Chevy is that my insurance dropped by $400 a year by dropping the bronco and adding the chevy...... I also just discovered the that the driver seat is power.

good luck on your project, but 6.5's are terds to me, and they like to crack heads if overheated, or overboosted.

You wanna know why? The truck is legally a three seater the Bronco was a five seater.

Fewer passengers equals less potential liability.

im about to start my own 351 swap into my bronco. and we gotta see some pics of that 6.5

it actually has 6 seatbelts. It has a full bench seat in the back and a 40/60 split bench in the front.

What kind of transmission does it have? I generally hate the 6.5 TDs but it could be because its paired to a terrible 4speed automatic. I am of course refering to the 6.5 turbo diesel in this:
m1116_002-s.jpg
so I'm sure its a lot different.

Torque comes in real low:
Power / Torque (lowest): 180 hp (134 kW) @ 3,400 rpm / 360 lb·ft (488 N·m) @ 1,700 rpm
Power / Torque (highest): 215 hp (160 kW) @ 3,200 rpm / 440 lb·ft (597 N·m) @ 1,800 rpm

Personally I love the Powerstroke Diesels, but that's a nice score you got there. Pics?

put 100 miles on it today (the batteries were weak and needed to be charged) and I varied my driving...... went up the free way with the cruise set on 60, went the same number of miles with it set on 70. did some in town driving with alot of stop lights and alot ot of back roads with 4 way stops varied from 45 to 55 mph and i did alot of idling.

102 miles and it took 5.516 gallons from the same station and same pump and the same time of day I filled at yesterday....... thats roughly 18.5 mpg with a leaky injector and a leaky fuel line..... the minivan got 16 doing the same track I did today with no idling.

I am not 100% sure but I think its got 4.10...... .75 od, 245/75/16......... 2300ish @ 70 mph. it could also be 3.90 but 4.10 L/S was the factory upgrade from 3.73...... wish the sticker wasn't so worn off so I could get the axle code.... no tag on either diff, but it is def a limited slip.

if I can afford it I am going to change the fuel filter tomarrow and i will get pics of the engine.

Here you go. pics of the engine

the A/C quit working, looks like it has a leak

Here is the new part

here is the old one next to the new one

recharged it and now it blows ice cold.

also changed the air filter... no pics, did it in the Autozone parking lot. the old one was plugged ..... new filter = more power, now I have to take off less than 1/4 throttle to keep from roasting the tire, and now it will chirp the tires from 1st to 2nd gear. gonna do the fuel filter next week. gear oil is fresh and the diffs are full. All the brake lines have been replaced, the brakes are newish.

whoever asked about the transmission.... its a 4L80E, the fluid is fresh, good color.

I never used to be a big fan of the 6.5L because I know of more than one that has had numerous issues, but both were pulling heavy trailers and were early versions of them.

For the right price I'd certainly own and drive, one and they are starting to get into my price range.

this isn't going to haul to heavy of a load, its the light duty 3/4 ton with a GVW of something like 7200 pounds and a 9000 pound towing capacity.
