In my '90 With the mazda 5spd. I have no backup lamps. I can remove the switch and push it to light them up. But when bolted in, they don't come on in reverse? :dunno:

The switch isn't installed to the correct depth (I think too shallow). You aren't pushing the switch in far enough with the reverse shiftgate.

Did you add a sealer ring (nylon) or somesuch?

The switch is fully threaded without any type of washer or spacer. They've never worked since I put the remanufactered trans in years ago. But I remember they did with the original trans. I wonder if there was anysort of pushrod that goes in the hole? Maybe when mine was assembled they forgot to use one?

If you remove the switch and shift it into reverse, can you see the bump on the reverse shiftgate through the hole?
