My replacement when ford stops making rangers

I thought I was going to see this thing when I clicked on the links

I don't think they're going to make it though... shame.

Me Too, Me Too! Good old straight six with a proven history. Hybrid for off road, don't think so.

I hate it. Am I the only one so far?

I'm not being a Jeep/Chrysler hater (I like Wranglers & Mac, the Comanche is a God send), but I just don't like the styling.

I don't like how it is favoring the wannabe outdoorsman. The Secret Door on the driver's side can be seen as practical, but they should just keep it like a normal door with less problems. I like how they can still have canvas doors/bikini top options, but overall, it just doesn't appeal to me.

I concur that the upkeep would be $. It is just too boxy, the the interior has always seemed awkward.

DOES ANYONE AGREE WITH THE AWKWARD INTERIORS?

Long live Rangers.

the more awkward the better

jeep is really good at making the outside of their vehicles cool looking, too bad what actually drives it is the same old bullshit that's been breaking down for the last 30 years. had a guy come into work today with an 05 grand cherokee, 80k on the clock, already had a rebuilt tranny, rear end and 3 radiators.....never taken offroad once.....say what you want about them, i'll never use any money i have earned to buy one, i dont care what it is or what it does.....if ford makes something like that, i'll personally take a dump in bill ford's mailbox

That looks like an old jeep with some metal work done to the body... Very clean job though if it did have metal work done.

It actually a new J8 (very similar to the JK) with a AEM brute bed and a new front clip. It's called the NuKizer, google it:icon_thumby:

The only thing more awkward than the Jeep's interior is walking in on your mother servicing herself.

Again, I'll stick with my Gen III's. :icon_hornsup:

The rear seat is worthless, and the covers over the engine look tacky.

I have sat in them at car shows but have never driven a JK (or any Jeep for that matter) The interiors always struck me as function over form, which isn't really a bad thing. I hate that spare on the side if they are going to make it an extended cab. The only rear door I really use is my rear drivers side.

I have always been impressed that someone was still man enough to build a capable truck with a manual gearbox, solid front axle, and are still man enough to hang mud tires on it from the factory.

the jeep comanche was a good truck ihad one awhile ago i got for like 5 hundred bucks with a straight 6 in it and it ran great just sold it for a ranger awhile ago but if its anything like that i wouldn't mind it

If Chrysler is smart, they'll put a durable engine like the 4.7 they used in Dakotas or the 2.8L CRD they used in the Liberty. Then, after Ford kills the Ranger they green light this. Say what you will, but a 4.7 is more than capable of moving a small truck for a very long time, and I haven't heard nearly as many bad things about the 2.8 CRD as the 3.7. It's only weak point will likely be the transmission. Regardless, Chrysler can sell this truck if they produce it for the same reason they can sell the Ram 1500: looks.

Even if it is old news, I haven't seen it, and with the right engine (Diesel engine small enough to give this thing combined mpg in the low 20s, but still large enough to make 250 ft lbs of torque or more) I'd want one. Even the 3.0 CRD would be nice.

i was hoping the diesel Mahindra from India was going to make it here before 2012. reminds me of the old FJ-55 (iirc) lancruiser pickup. and a diesel/manual is right up my alley!

I had never heard of the Mahindra until I read your posting, and then I looked it up, and it is exactly what I am looking for to replace my old Ranger with. I think I'll wait until they've sold them a couple years and keep my old Ranger in the meantime and then buy a used one at a cheaper price once there start to be some used ones. That's very comparable to my Ranger; small fuel efficient 4-cylinder motor available in a small single cab body and has the added benefit of being a clean diesel TDI motor rather than 87 octane, and I'd rather have a new TDI anyway. I just hope they offer it in a manual because I don't want an automatic in a truck. I even read somewhere on the internet that they are eventually going to offer a diesel-electric hybrid. That would be my dream truck if it comes in a manual. It looks like they even offer this truck in 4 wheel drive, but still with the small motor. That would be ideal for places with snow and hills in the winter because it would get good gas mileage most of the year and still get you where you want to go in the winter too with the 4 wheel drive. Ford hasn't offered the Ranger as a 4 wheel drive with a small fuel efficient 4 cylinder since 1996. Everything I've read says they expect it to have a base price of around $22,000.00 brand new; not bad at all. I think the TR20 would be the best replacement for my Ranger. If I got a red one and stuck a black topper on it, it would be almost just like my Ranger in fact, except a lot newer. Looks like it's finally gotten EPA approval, so they should be able to start selling it soon. Looks like they will have good dealership support, too, with quite a few dealerships in every single state if you look at their dealer map. I don't know why Ford doesn't want my money when they already have a light truck with a 5-speed that they currently are selling and a small Duratorq TDI that they sell everywhere but North America and refuse to sell here even though I and many others want to buy it.

My understanding is that they were originally going to offer it with a manual but will not be at this time. I guess since the majority wants autos that is what will be sold. But maybe that will change in the future (I doubt it). Gassers are better in the winter (at least here) because there is no worries of the fuel gelling.

Depending on how reliable they are I'd be interested in buying a manual 4 door. I'm kind of skeptical on the reliability from though, even if it is a diesel.

This might explain the Grand Cherokee. This is the plant that makes them

The 6 speed automatic would be really good (especially for a city traffic vehicle). But I understand for the want/need of a stick.

Diesel. Bring it!
