? really it is
My truck is a 5 spd small 4 cylinder with fuel rails
lately is been continuing to rev like the throttle is stuck ( but its not of course)
but get this...
it stays reved up untill i come to a complete stop! ???
if i am rolling it will still stay reved up like i was in cruise control?
no i dont have cruise
basic ranger
no mods
its got 140 k on it now
any thoughts? i can do the work if i know where to start
please help gas is going up soon.....
thanks

how high does it rev? this is normal up to a certain point... its to aid in getting back into gear

its probably 4 grand or more?
its cruising down the road at 45 in 4th
thats pretty high...

yeah thats very excessive. so at a stop it idles normal and there is no check engine light?

since you don't have cruise it would have to be a bad IAC valve. or a sticking throttle

no check light
throttle is fine
i reased it and i was thinking of spraying cleaner in there
whats an iac valve?

idle air control valve.

If its not the valve, Check for vacuum leaks!
If you dont find anything, see where the Throttle Position Sensor is running voltage wise. it could be malfunctioning or the butterfly on the throttle body is too far open...one in the same.

if you can get a codereader a lot of the time a code will be pending and the go away before it throws the cel...... you can check it when it is acting up.......i agree wtih the above.......check/clean iacv, tps and vacuum leaks.....I also would clean the maf.......the maf reads airflow.........your gas pedal should really be called an "air pedal" because when you press it the TB allows air to enter after the air enters the fuel is missed in....

also check all the fittings, rubber connectors, and hose clamps on the intake. if you've got a leak in the intake tract it might do something like that.

ok so i checked for vacum leaks
been driving it about a month now getting ready to do something with it
i video taped the problem and posted it on youtube i was kinda hoping i could get one of the nice guys here to help me diagnose the problem...i would be more than happy to trade for a burger or something if you are around here
well heres the post on youtube

any help or guidance would be great
thanks!!

you checked for vaccum leaks but what about everything else? IAC, intake tract for leaks, cracked boot. ect. clean MAF check voltage on TPS... people have given some good advice take advantage.

Also how did you check for vaccum leaks?

have you tried driving it around with the IAC unplugged?
