this is my project, 89 "Crazy" Ranger XLT 4x4. bought the truck for 800 bucks, its 5spd with 2.9L. the truck was in great shape for its year only has 167k on it. but was poorly maintained 
i had to buy alot of stuff new like: cap, rotor, plugs, wires, rad, coolant, fuel pump, belts hoses, fuel filter, and O2 sensor, and all new lights and wiper blades. 
kinda mods: tossed the center console, MADE cup holders/shifter bezel, used a 32mm socket for my shifter knob
sounds redneck but actually looks pretty awesome lol. also upgraded the stereo, got rid of the clutch fan and upgraded to an electric fan. did some exhaust work, and threw 2" coil spacers in the front(still need a wheel allignment) but sorta has that baja stance which i love! also got rid f the crappy old PEELING paint and just did flat black for now and painted the rims charcol grey lol 
Future mods:
new paint, fiberglass box sides and fenders, tint windows, '94 explorer drivetrain front and back WITH the 4.0L (rebuilt of course), prerunner front and rear bumpers, 4'' lift with GM 64" leafs in the rear annd 15X8 wheels and Falken High Country 30X9.5X15 tires
