My own place

Hmmm, I didn't get that he needed to raise the house....I thought maybe a new higher header over the door. @mighty, how about some pics of the house and area in question.

I think the discussion is either about raising the second floor in the garage or raising the garage itself.

I have a couple of those house jacks (just the screw parts of at least two) in my barn. May have been from when they joined the two houses together (story I got is one house was dragged in by mules and attached to the existing house) or may have been a bargain great-grandpa found on a farm sale... no way of knowing.

He doesn't have the garage door clearance to get his truck in or just barely. We do need photos inside and out of the garage door.

That must be an awful short garage door. Is it a 6' one? We were able to get my buddy's Dodge 1500 through a 7' door, and it was on 35's with about a 6" lift. Deflating the tires made it fit.

I'm glad I went with 8' doors on the shop I built but I should have gone with 12' walls and 10' doors, that way I could pull my truck and camper in to work on it... would have made my building obscenely more expensive though.

My brother gave me a 12x24 storage tent when I did my first re-hab on the Rat back in '12. I put it together again out back and run it on extension cords from my shopThe top wore out so I bought some green tarps for a roof over. This time, I'm using rugs and carpet scraps for a floor. Dry and out of the wind. Beats the driveway. I have the bed off the Rat , and I'm in the process of taking out the gas tank. :D

Not enough clearance? He needs to get a running start, it'll fit LOL.

Many regular height garage doors are 7' high. Looks like he said he only has 79" of height That's only a little over 6-1/2 feet. Must be an older garage? Depending on how the front of the garage is, a person may be able to tear out the top and reframe and reside the house to install a taller garage door.

Yes it was built in the 70s or 80s not real sure but from my tape measuring it'll just fit may have to flatten the tires a bit and shove it in with my b2 and a tire between em.
I have to pull the front clip and yank the cab witch it'll be out side for that use a tree and a winch or something also gonna pull motor and trans going back to the drawing board on it fresh v8 c6 full size t case and 1/2 tons

That is going to be hard to move up.

Add on two more bays the correct height. Then you can have a shop for your welder, tablesaw, drillpress, benchgrinder etc. and then have your vehicle shop attached. :icon_idea:

Yep, Your conundrum is obvious. Wow, those are some short doors! You are blessed to have a garage and no doubt you can make it work. You would have to raise the house to gain clearance.

Nice walmart cart :icon_rofl:

Hello there, I've been hauling shopping carts out of ponds and I've been doing it for 18 years...so give me a fawkin' check please

Probably not too cheap, but that could be raised, blocked temporarily, and a couple new courses of concrete block laid into place. WAG; $10,000.00

Yes, definitely possible to raise the house, but maybe better off to build another attached structure on one side (maybe the right side looks easiest?) Check local building codes/taxes/etc if you go that route, detached building might be cheaper! My finished 1200sq/ft shop only made my taxes go up a couple hundred a year and like $50/year for insurance. It would be cool to have like a tall single bay shop on one side with a door through into the current garage, that way you have your work area and a smaller room to do whatever in. Put engines together, hang up a deer, drink beer, etc.
