Well my dad is moving out of state and left his house to me so I'll have my own place to wrench now. It's got a 2 car garage it's not very big but it'll work get some paint in there and it'll be a gem

Agreed! I bought a house for the right price and in the right location (away from everyone), but no carport or garage. Wish I stuck with my original plan, buying land and building a garage with an apartment above it.

If at all possible, throw up a storage shed of some sort to keep from filling your garage up with crap. Build a work bench and organize your tools. I was finally able to retrofit my lighting with LEDs and cut my lighting costs by about 80%. That is a big savings at .25 per KWH.

Make improvements as money allows and the space will serve you well. Have fun!

If you do decide to build a storage shed or something, let me know. When I'm mobile again, I'll come bring my tools and help you make sure it's built right. They'll last half of forever when built right, I did one with my dad about 18 years or so ago. About 8-9 years ago we jacked it up, put it on an equipment trailer, and hauled it like 15 miles to a new house. It's still in great shape.

Its amazing how much you can get done in a small garage. My last place only had a 1 car, and I still managed to get the stroker in my Ranger. I have a 2 car, detached garage now, but its full of Challenger and 2 Samurais (one is turned sideways). You will enjoy having a place to work/store your ride.

Thanks guys and little blue ford I might take ya up on it my goal is to get some heat in there run a gas line and I have a decent size storage above the garage.

But the only thing that's gonna be fun is the doors for my garage are 79 ish inches high and my ranger is 78 so I may have to flatten the tires to get it in there ha ha

You could also consider a lowering mod on your truck...haha...

Depending on the type of door...there may be some adjustments if the door stops before the top of the door frame...had to do that on a roll up sectional once...just increased the travel slightly and it helped clear the door frame...

I had to do this...not for my truck...I was very close to hitting my head on the bottom of the door every time I walked through it...a very annoying thing when you're in a hurry to do something and you gotta stop for a few minutes to use up some vulgarities on how stupid the design was...lol...

So just raise the second floor... a few house jacks and some effort, nothing major. Especially when you consider that Chicago was raised on house jacks and some buildings were moved in order to install public sewage....

Those are house jacks. You probably have adjustable posts holding it up.

How do you raise it? Just like eating an elephant, a little at a time, lol. Temporary beams in the important areas, cribbing under the jacks and it's up scope. Crank it up, block it, raise the jacks and up again until you reach the desired height. Put a stub wall on the top of the existing wall and set it back down. Not all that terrible if you're only trying to gain a couple feet. Sounds like it could stand to be raised if only to add some extra support

Hmmm, I didn't get that he needed to raise the house....I thought maybe a new higher header over the door. @mighty, how about some pics of the house and area in question.
