posted a new innovation in the tire industry for the military, one that can take the explosion of an IED (Improvised Explosive Device), withhold a few rounds of fire from a rifle, as well as support the weight of a Humvee. Standing at 37 inches tall, these new honeycomb style tires are developed out of a series of hexagon figures to help distribute weight around the tire. Expected to hit military usage in 2011, the tires can reach a top speed of 50 miles per hour which is fast for an armored Humvee. Developed by the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Resilient Technologies in Wisconsin, the honeycomb tire is made of a patent-pending design that rides just like conventional pneumatic (air filled) tires. The cost of the awesome technology are expected to be the same as current 37 inch off-road tires.
