So I'm going to post up my introduction and ask a few questions as this looks like a great site.
First off, I'll start by telling I'm not completely new to the Ranger world as I drove a RBV for about 2 years and that is my beloved 01 Explorer XLT. She was a good truck/SUV but with a 130,xxx, it is time to part with her. It has the 4.0 SOHC that I just dumped 2 grand into for a timing chain and tensioner, lifters, etc. Runs PERFECT now and I'm only the second owner and the first was my aunt and I bought it off her for 8000 two years ago. Anyways, it's up for sale if anyone is interested teehee.
Soooo, Wednesday I picked up my new 08 Ranger XLT supercab. It's only the 2 door and it was one of those budget friendly Rangers but not completely stripped. It has the 3.0 with the 5spd auto, power package, rear jump seats, privacy glass, Sirius satellite with 6 mos service and that is pretty much all the extras. So when I say budget friendly I mean, steel silver wheels, no sliding rear window, no rear pop out windows, etc, but thats ok, that exactly what I was looking for.
So on to my questions and I searched for about 3 hours before posting as I am not new to auto forums and everyone hates newbs that ask the same questions that have been beaten to death.
1. I only want to do a subtle drop so I was looking at the DJM 2/3 drop. Is that the best and only kit out there for what I am looking for? I was trying NOT to have to do the flipkit but is that the best way to lower the rear, is it a bad idea to drop the rear with the hanger and shackle method? Also, on the front which is coilover BTW, when I put the shorter springs on there, is that going to really limit the suspension travel? I don't want to hit the bump stops or only have an inch or two of travel ya know? I want the best drop for what I'm looking for. I am only looking to drop 2-3 inches.
2. I had an SCT XCAL3 programmer for my Explorer but I will obviously be taking that off. Does anyone know of a reliable shop maybe even from the site where I can send it off and have the custom tunes reprogrammed after I do the intake and exhaust on my truck as the programmer is vin locked and that will have to be changed as well.
Anyways, after that long intro, here are some pics of the X
And of the new whip...
