if its not too much trouble for you, yes i still need a side cover at the moment. i have a guy welding the original back together, but im still missing the round 2 holed HONDA cover. my bike bandit parts should be here tomorrow, let the long nights begin!

i got my side cover back from the guy who welded it and i have to say, im very damn impressed! he even made me a side cover to replace the one that was missing.

Looks great!
As soon as I can run him down Ill see what he has,no trouble,he knows where a ATC 185s I need for parts is.

i went home and put the cover on last night and then fired it up to make sure there was no rubbing issues and it started up on the third kick in 5* weather! what can i say, it runs like a Honda!

Wish my Honda would run like a Honda. Of course it might if I were to have stored it properly last time I rode it (4-6 months ago), or if I were to put a little effort into making it run.

It's looking good, hard to believe that it came out that good. Just goes to show what a good cleaning and a little TLC can do.

yeah, unfortunately how theyre stored usually determines how well they run when you go to use them in the spring. i do have to say that this is the best find ive had as far as bikes go, usually if i get one for free its missing major components and needs around $500 to make it rideable and reliable, and then even more $ if i want to make it presentable. my parts didnt arrive yesterday due to the "Snowmageddon" we endured yesterday. hopefully thell be on my door step at lunch time, but if not ive still got 2 days till its time to ride again.

lookin good...my first dirt bike was one of those.it took a lot of abuse.

just cause im bored and still have an hour and a half before i can work on the bike again, heres some pics of some of the bikes in my collection, theres still others scattered around that i havent photographed.

The Yamaha IT a 125 or 250?
I had a 250 for a while great bike!

The first bike is a 1987 honda CR125 bored .060" over, it was my first MX bike and i learned many lessons with it.
The second pic is of the 1975 yamaha CT175 (my moms bike that we rescued from a field where it had been sitting exposed to the elements for 10+ years. also in the second pic is my 2001 CR250 that i picked up a few years ago from a buddy who needed money and had no plans of ever riding the bike again (he had a good crash at the dunes the first time he rode it), so i got it off him fairly cheap.
The third pic is of my 1974 yamaha xs650 that im in the process of making into a bobber/ chopper (i started it in 2003 and still havent finished it!).
the rest of the bikes are as afollows from front to back: 1969 kawasaki 120 roadrunner, 1982 suzuki sp250, 1972 yamaha 250, 1975 yamaha ct175, 1977 yamaha IT175, 1977 suzuki PE175, 1988 xr250, and 2001 cr250. i also have a 1970 suzuki TC90

a 1969 CZ 125

and a hand full of parts bikes (1978 Yamaha IT400, 1979 Yamaha xs400, a 70s' yamaha 80, a 80s' suzuki 120, and some miscelaneous 1995 CR80 parts).

well i got the parts and im working on putting in the new fork seals, but i cant seem to get the old ones out? i removed the dust boot, the snap ring, and the seal retainer plate, but i cant get the fork tube to pull out of the lower? maybe ill do some youtube searching to see if theres a how to for frustrated idiots?

so i guess i was just having a major Durp-a-Dur moment the other night, last night i went back over to rays house and we did the fork seals with no problem at all. i watched some youtube videos yesterday to see if there was any tricks to these forks, but what i found was either for inverted forks which have different internals all together, but then there was this kid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXC8jqwgNBM

i laughed for a while cause thats exactly what i looked like the other night when i was trying to get it apart! i ended up clamping the fork tubes back into the lower triple clamp and then using a piece of wood i tapped on the lower leg and out came the seals! way easier and more productive than the youtube method. from there i cleaned everything, installed the new seals, filled up the forks with 10w oil, and then took the head set back apart to add the lone ball bearing i left out accidentally ( i found it when cleaning up the work bench after i disassembled it all the first time). today is sunday, so after work im heading straight to rays to go ride!
