i blew my tranny out so i tried to take the old one off and i decided it was easier to pull the motor and tranny out to swap tranny's. while i was attemping to disconect things from the motor and i found problem after problem. The intake manifold was coated inside with what looked like a greasy gunk. So im gonna clean it out. All my fuel injectons, the bottom of them were cracked and covered with the gunk. As i was pulling the motor out and one of my motor mounts fell apart. My master cylinder to my clutch is leaking a little fluid out and my clutch was having problems every once in a while and i think it was due to that. I am going to replace all the motor gaskets and paint the motor while its out of the truck. I am thinking about replacing the clutch and slave cylinder while its out. Is that nessasary to do, also my clutch hydralic line has dirt in it. I have the motor halfway out but the tranny is bottoming out on the floor pan, so do i have do remove the beam the tranny bolts to. So are all those parts nessasary to change and do i have to unbolt that beam that the tranny bolts to and any other information would be helpful.

Don't exactly know what the "Black greasy gunk" in the intake is, but it's probably not good. I would clean it, and check injectors real good.

Next you say that one of your motor mounts fell apart, then it's time to replace them both. Then look real hard at the transmission mount. Any signs of cracking or deformation, it should be replaced. And yes, to get the motor/trans out the transmission crossmember will have to come out.

If your clutch hydraulic lines have dirt in them, then you have problems. I would definitely replace the slave cylinder, master cylinder in this case. I would also flush the entire system with new clean brake fluid to remove any debris in there. Don't use any type of solvent, as this could contaminate the hydraulic system, but make sure it's 100% clean.

Hope this helps.

the black greasey gunk is probably the result of blow-by. i would reccomend going thru the motor.

The black stuff could also be return from either the EGR or the top breather hose on the valve cover...I know the EGR crud is thick and gooey and can harden into a crust that needs to be scraped off...and it can gum things up enough that performance suffers considerably...cleaning it out is usually easy...but you should also do the PCV system and maybe replace the PCV valve is you haven't done so...

But, if you're going to do a rebuild on the engine that should all be part of the rebuild anyways...use gas to clean parts, or there are fluids that help remove grime like they use in most auto shops...makes things much easier...

okay, i got the motor and tranny out without removing the crossmember, now i have beat on my clutch really hard before the tranny, should i replace it while the motor is out, i was planning on getting a center force 2 clutch so are they good clutches. I will definantly replace slave and master cylinder and probably hydralic line. Now, like i said my injectors at the tip the o ring and the plastic tip is broken on all of them so i should probably replace the injectors. I am going to replace all the gaskets on the motor except the head gasket. The gunk in my intake is hard but wet and comes off on your finger. Now i looked in the intake side of the block and i dont see any gunk so i think its all in the intake.

Didnt anyone ever tell you...dont knock the dirt off the truck. Its all thats holding it together. I Think I have some extra fuel injector.
