My little Iron Ranger {Part 2}

Lookin great!! Just something to look at or think about...take a look at your bearing retainer where the throw out bearing rides, if it is worn at all you should order up a steel one. once they start wearing they are prone to break. Last time I had my T5 out I put on a steel one just for good measure!

That's a great idea!! I'm not taking chances this time around since I reeeeeeally hate taking out/putting back in the transmission.

We should start work on her within the next week or two, whenever the cam parts show up.........

Well, some more parts came in in the last few days! The cam, roller lifters, spider hold down roller conversion kit, steel bearing retainer, and a true K&N cone filter(I had no idea that summit racing sold universal K&N air cones!) to replace the cone filter that's in it now, it's a cheapie knockoff.

We're well on our way!!

Is that my old T5? Lol. I had one that I painted blue... And, nice cam choice!

Thanks!!

Yeah, I wasn't keen on painting it silver again........:annoyed: wanted some flash. Nothing better than Ford Blue!!

I hope this cam opens up the true potential of this 302 though.................... :icon_surprised:

Well, finally went to the storage and fired her up. She started without any problems, so that's good!

Got it in the garage and drained the coolant(not fun at all:annoyed:), drained the stanky gear oil out of the tranny, and removed the front grill and radiator.

You're all gonna love what I got planned for the radiator.............. :D:D

Glad to hear your still working on it, keep the updates coming!!

Damn Nice truck you got there ! And Good Idea Painting the transmission if you got a V-8 under the hood you can bet they will want to look at the rest of the truck !

Troy.

What I had in mind.........

For the radiator, this is what I am going to do. At work, we use these pieces called "tents" that helps smoothly transfer coolant from one area to another.

It's a simple piece, but it'll help me out a great deal! Fill the coolant faster and eliminate chances for trapped air.

As seen here:

Simply cut out the bottom of the filler piece and weld on the tent. More room and easier fills! :icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

I also installed the air dam from LMC truck (WARNING: They don't skimp on the packing peanuts! Have at least 2 contractor's bags ready......... :annoyed:)

And there were some surface rust spots on the face of the radiator core support. Can't have that on my rig!! If I can reach it, I can fix it!

Sanded the surface rust off, used the self etch on the bare areas, and is now primered. I'll have to go out tomorrow and buy some Duplicolor black

Got on the Duplicolor black. This paint is awesome!

Have any of you have one of those "that explains everything moments?" Well, my brother tore down the 302 to swap cams, and when it came time to put the new one in, he compared them side by side and found out that the cam lobes are all turned different in comparison.

I went to do research and found out (thanks to Kyle M. and others at the mustangforums.com website) that my computer is an HO, which means it has a different firing order than what old cam was. Needless to say, that's why it couldn't do a good burnout or accelerate worth squat.

Now we have the right one in the truck, and this one is, from what I've heard, a good cam.

This is gonna be sweet!!

Well, my brother and I chopped 1 1/2" off of the body lifts on the bed. It was fairly easy, but the hard part is going to be the cab.

On film, it doesn't look much different, but trust me it's a lot better now. Nice and sleek! :icon_thumby:

Gotta wait until Monday for a special nut to use on the degree wheel for the cam. After that, it should be ready to go in no time!!

I like the picture of the LMC catalog under your 9" on like, page 8 or something. At least they've got the stuff we need. NICE build.
