My idea of a Shelby Ranger if there would have been one.

I don't think that would work where he has a 5 speed tranny, or does it matter on the transmission part????

it has to be a manual tranny ECM... or the CEL will stay on..

My bad for some reason I was thinking automatic transmission. None of the local places list one for a manual, sorry bout that.

Thanks for checking on it for me.. I have filled her up with gas so We will see how well it does.. I did play with her a tad though.. Sometimes it just feels good to feel the power and torque of the little 4.0...

Is it possible for us to experiment on your truck IF it still gets bad fuel mileage??

It wont cost you much, just a disconnect for the Positive side of your battery.

Sure.. I'll do anything within reason to figure out the sucky MPG....

Well, What I'm thinking is that in a past post, you said it would get great mpg's right after you reset the computer, so, hook up a quick disconnect to the Pos side and every time your shut the engine off, flip the disconnect off also, that way your computer is in a state of "reset", do this and see what kind of MPG's you get on a tank of fuel.

hey multi, didn't go back to far but I see you are still fighting with your fuel mileage problem. couple questions, what gear you running? Reason for asking is you keep refering to the truck the motor came from getting better mileage. They may have different gears they will get different mileage. Second question is what color are the electrods on the plugs? Lets take it back to the old hot rodding method, what you want is almost a almond color. If they are dark to black it is dumping fuel, if they are light to white its feeding to much air. Once you know if its fuel or air we can start to really get to the heart of the problem. Also try it with a new plug at idle for 20 minutes. What I am trying to find is is it mixing rich before or after the manifold. The difference is it a sensor upstream of fuel/air distrubution or are we dealing with another bad o2 sensor. Let me know I will check a few things in the mean time with my friend who does programing for auto computers.

OS!!!!!!! Dang good to see you back Budy! both trucks had the 3.45 rearend... I changed it out to a 3.08. dropped 200 RPMs.. The plugs are almond /light tan... I installed a new used air charge temp last change of anything.. still sucky milage on road trip my girlfriend and I went on last weekend and I babied the crap out of her... how about the BBK TB would that cause more fuel since it's bigger than Stock.. I am at such a lost since it runs soooo good.. New girlfriend loves the ole girl!! I have got to do something to get better MPG for some more trips! Pics coming soon in the trips and Vacation

Next tank of gas I'll try it.. I made some other changes with no luck..

I can understand why the little lady would love it. plug color is great so its not a rich problem, but that tb could make a big difference. bigger means more air in, more air in tells computer to add fuel to keep the mix around 15:1. if you have an original try it for a few tanks and see what happens. The reason for a few tanks is to let the computer to run full cycle. the change may turn on your check engine light for a bit til it adjusts to me new air flow.

I am willing to try anything at this point..

i know this is kind of a shitty thing to say, but if i were you, i would be at the point where i would take it to a shop and pay the 100-200 for the diagnostic on what the hell is wrong with it, then just fix it myself

It's getting to that point really quick... I am going to try the orig TB first and go from there...

The factory TB is back on the truck.... I'll stil have to fill it back up and take another trip to se how well it does.. I can't tell any difference in power... It still pulls like crazy!!

Just remember, an engine can only pull in so much air. In theory, if it pulls the same no matter what, a smaller TB would have a higher volocity of air going through it then a larger one. But you also have to think does the engine really have that hard of a time pulling air through something that may not seem like that much of an increase in size. I can understand this on a racing engine but not a 4.0 that doesnt have to have a sudden increase in air to get to 300mph in a quarter mile either.

I dont know if any of that made sence but its hard to explain in words, more of a visual kind of thing.

you kinda made sense, but what a lot of people don't realize, what the cylinders can hold is quite often more than what the intake system can provide... i know the stop MAF on an 89 mustang is significantly smaller than what it should have to let the motor breathe properly... something like 55mm, i put a 73mm on mine, got an increase in power, and was still starving it slightly... (throttle body is about 73mm on a 5.0, so bigger than a 73mm maf doesn't make that much difference at that stage)

edit: is your maf dirty?

3 more to go! :D:D
