i have a 89 ford bronco II and the gas gauge is broke...any suggestions?

A lot of us have found the brass sending unit's float to have holes in it for various reasons. Mine had about 10 holes corroded thru it due to sitting for a while. It's a lot easier to get to if you cut an access hole above the tank but of course there are risks involved. If you ground the wire from sending unit to the gauge,(Haynes manual says yellow/white) it should go to full. If so, problem is most likely the sending unit or the float.
