Hey, everyone! I've been in the market for a small pickup for a while now and I finally found a 94 XLT within my budget. It needs a few fresh pieces (which have been just been ordered :D) but it runs well. It just hit 200K and my goal is to keep it running longer! The Disco Ranger will primarily be my work commuter and camping vehicle. The previous owner installed a body lift so it sits pretty nice, although in the future I will probably replace it with a true suspension lift.

This is my first experience with a Ranger and I am trying to learn everything I can about it to ensure it remains reliable for years to come! Any advice or comments are greatly appreciated!

Welcome to TRS :)

I have a 1994 Ranger extended cab, 4.0l, 4x4, manual trans
getting close to 400k, so you have some miles left

1994 was the last year of the EEC-IV 60-wire computer, it uses 3 number OBD codes
1995 got the newer 104-pin EEC-V computer which uses OBD2 4 digit codes, which are still used today

You can read codes from your computer just using a jumper wire and counting the flashes on the Check Engine light(CEL)

Rangers really held up over the years which is why there are so many still on the road.

Some very good "been there done that" articles from members here

If you have specific questions be sure to include year, engine size(there were 3 engines available in 1994), 2WD or 4x4, and manual or automatic, while it may seem unimportant some variables can matter in getting correct answer

Thanks for the welcome. I've ordered a bunch of new parts to include a belt, shocks, tune-up items, bushings and fluid swaps. I also came across the dreaded multifunction switch fail on the way home after picking up the vehicle. This was the second time I saw the vehicle before I bought it and it was working just fine a few days prior....oh well. I added that to the cart as well.

I've definitely been reading through the articles and there is a lot of good info in there. I'll have some pictures up soon!
